Did you notice any fitment issues? When did you buy your snorkel and where?

Not for the main snorkel. The second piece won't fit without cutting it, so I just haven't put it in yet. Got both pieces from ECS.

It drives me nuts when I get shit that doesn't work/fit :(

I've got a pile of parts in my garage that need returned, although a lot of that was from experimenting.

If slipping plastic ducts together drives you nuts, you should reconsider converting to ST. Just about everything is going to be a pain in the balls.

Well there are aftermarket parts which will need massaging. And then there are OEM parts which should fit perfectly. I'm already dealing with exhaust manifold stud removal... fun stuff.

I found the smaller E-torx socket I had wouldn't allow stud to go deep enough. I had best luck w/ a regular 1/4" 7mm socket (I think). Same thing on a couple of the transmission bolts. Double check to see if there's a 6 or 12 point socket that gets better engagement when dealing w/ E-torx.

That is exactly the problem I had(too late now) so that is great hindsight. The issue is the tip was sheering off and the E tip does seem to taper wider toward the threads. So I have 7 of these things with the tips sheered off. My 7mm extractor should be here thursday. The PB Blaster didn't seem to help when taking another look with vice grips, so I bought that Kroil stuff. I refuse to break a stud off in the manifold, I may try to double nut between now and Thursday if it will fit two.

On the worst one I had to use a mini pipe wrench. Use a brand new one (or one that isn't beat to death) so the teeth are sharp. Make sure its got bite & make sure to twist w/ the axis of the stud. Popped right out once it bit.

Except the fitment is off for us (not bmws fault), as OP showed he had to do some cutting/sanding and that irks my OCDness

How is it not bmw's fault? The snorkel part number is the same from 335i/d so the fitment should be the same on the duct as well. At the least, there is a bad batch of molds, and BMW charges those markups so the quality control is better than that.

well you are putting a 335d part in a 335i...?
The snorkel is the piece that doesn't fit with the 335d duct. The part numbers for the 335i snorkel and 335d snorkel are the same. This means anyone ordering replacement parts for the 335d would have the same issue.

Ah well then, that is an issue. Learn something new everyday!

Technically, its the duct which is the problem. Because the snorkel fits perfectly with the 335i duct. But the duct and snorkel mesh together, which is why I pointed that out. I've never heard of a mold being bad causing parts to be misaligned, but something is not right with them.
