Looks about like mine tbh. Mine is definitely the oil pan. Take a flashlight and shine up the side of the engine at the gasket.

Also, oil would probably be in the downpipe rather than outside, or rather all the sooty burned up oil.

Not uncommon, but sucks. Some jobs are worth paying a competent shop to do rather than DYI. Had my oil pan gasket replaced at the dealer a few months ago. Done in a few hours and was one job I was happy not to do myself lol

Just wanted to let you guys know that I replaced the yellow spring my tial bov came with, with the black spring that was recommended and my surging issue is gone. Had to drive 2 hours to a job site earlier today gone, didn't surge one time on the way there or the way back!

Nice! So there was a boost leak with the yellow spring but not the black one?

No boost leak, quite the opposite I think where the BOV should have been releasing some pressure on flat to very slight downhill sections on the highway. I think the yellow spring was just too firm and wouldn't allow the BOV to open with what I would assume is a very small pressure differential between the intake manifold and charge pipe, thus creating the surging effect. The black spring isn't recommended according to Tials charts, but according to some of the other forum members having the lightest spring possible that still allows you to hold boost is the way to go.

6L of oil measured.

Down to oil pan gasket and rear main seal.

Can anybody confirm if a faulty pcv valve could cause the surging I was experiencing, and cause enough crankcase pressure to blow the rear main?

If i do the oil pan gasket first, will I be able to see if the rear main seal is good from there?
I think you have a better view from the observation point at the bell housing.

Remove the rubber tab near the O2 sensor plugs and look at the flywheel area with a flashligjt.

So surging issue still isn't fixed? I highly down the oil pan gasket and rear main leak will have anything to do with the surging issues. I've had so many of them come into the shop like that and they drive just fine.

Swapping the throttle body doesn't take that long, why don't you use try that first and eliminate it as a source of surging? A handful of other people on here said that was the problem....

did you ever hear anything back cuz I have had sort of the same issue, I cleaned my maf and ran an injector cleaner which greatly helped but now sometimes during acceleration I get a feeling in pedal like im going over a few lil bumps and the rpms will bounce up and down by 5-700. if I give car more gas, or let off and then re-apply the throttle then the issue stops, it is only at slower speeds and don't reaslly do it on M or DS only while in drive. it also happens more often when my fuel gets lower as well as when my ac is turned up high.
