Any real world results/logs for Speedtech Stage 3 EFR 7064?

I have a PS2 currently and am planning on upgrading fuel to the Helix unit this month but am concerned with maxxing out the PS2 with the restrictive turbofold manifld (and the damage extremely high backpressure can cause).

This car is a street car that rarely sees the strip and will run on 100% E85. I'd like a turbo that is as responsive as it can be and run between 500-600whp without choking the motor. Does anyone have any real-world logs for Speedtechs 7064 setup that claims full boost by 3000rpm?

And what does full boost by 3000rpm mean? Does everyone use MHD/Wedge's standard logging practice of 3rd gear, hold 2500rpm then WOT? That would make apples to apples comparisons. It takes my PS2 under these circumstances about 700-900rpm to hit full boost (3500rpm).

The car makes good power but if I want usable boost, you really need to give it a lot of pedal early on. I've heard great things about EFR turbo's response and was wondering what people who have it are actually experiencing.

Do you want a more responsive turbo set up than your Pure Stage 2s? Is that what you are asking/looking for?

Yes, *but,* I still want to make about 500whp on E85 without running sky-high boost through a restrictive exhaust housing.

Edit - I understand sometimes a restrictive exhaust housing is what enables early spool. The reason I was asking about the EFRs was the more advanced, lighter weight blades/design that might aid in spoolup regardless of the exhaust housing.

I haven't heard of anyone going with the smaller turbo option. All the ones I've seen are 7670 and 8374 so you might have a tough time finding info.

The EFRs, while the light weight gamma titanium wheels(or whatever it is) helps spool, it is really for gear changes etc. where you can get back into boost faster like when actually racing on a race track IIRC.

I don't think I have seen anyone with such a small single. Might contact speedtech directly and see what they think the driveability will be like vs your PS2.

The 7064 has a 56lb/min max flow rating. So find a dyno of any of these turbos on an n54 and you will have an idea:

Garrett GT3076R 52

BorgWarner EFR 7064 56

Garrett GTX3071R 57

BorgWarner S256 58

Precision (PTE) 5857 60

Personally I think that is a really small turbo and a lot of expense to move to a single turbo...

It'd be nice if Pure released some flow data so you knew what you were working with now. I feel like you might end up running a similar amount of boost with the 7064 to get to where you want to be as you are with the PS2.

Thanks for the replies - for anyone confused, I'm already single turbo (N55) - unless the ST term refers only to the upgrade version.

I hadn't realized the 7064 was similar to a 3071/3076 garrett. That is the kind of response I'm looking for... I've seen those turbos make full boost before 3,000 rpm on 3L's and still make 500whp but you're right - it takes a bit of boost to do that. A GT35R would put me at 3k or low 3's... I built a setup like that for me 3.0L E36 M3 at one time.

I guess my real concern is that I want a more efficient setup so that I'm not blowing out seals running super high backpressure through restrictive housings to achieve my goal. I would assume that the Speedtech kit with the log manifold and the EFR turbo with a back housing designed for the combination of compressor/turbine would be healthier for my car than running the stock turbofold and a PS2 @ 26psi.

I certainly don't need much more power the PS2 spins 2nd and 3rd (if the street is cold), but longevity and response are my priority.

According to Speedtech's page the 7670 hits 18psi by 3000 and they ramped it up to 25psi after that. I know that's not a customer example but it's something.

N54, but yeah my s257 spools.like that with a speedtech kit.

About 200rpm slower with the journal bearing s257(7670)

Weren't they making an n54 style kit for the n55?

My thinking was if the vendor can do that with the 7670, you shouldn't have a problem doing it with the smaller turbo.

Weren't they making an n54 style kit for the n55?

You mean like an external Wastegate set up? I had thought I heard something about that awhile back.

Edit: yep if that's what you meant, they've got something about an EWG kit up on their site

Unless they made a new manifold, there was an issue with the larger frame turbos touching the frame in E series N55s. The smaller frames did not have this issue. Can't remember if the 7670 is the same size as the 7064. If it is then definitely go 7670.

The new manifold with external wastegate lets you have wider turbo selection from Precision, Garrett and BW. Also, boost control is easier and more consistent especially for pwg cars. I just got the new speedtech kit and it will be installed in the next few weeks.

Sure I can. I got BW S369S-XE so, it’s too big compared to EFR 7074.

Found the size chart. 7064 and 7670 are the same size.
Yes the 7670 definitely fits but the 8374 needs some work. I don't think the smaller EFR turbo is worth the cost/labor over already having a PS2 but that's my opinion. Most info I found on it was related to 4cyl cars so you know it's not going to lag on our cars with an extra liter.

Did you ever pull the trigger on the speedtech kit? If so, did you go 7064 or 7670? I haven't found much info on the 7064 either.
