So.... What does "modifying only took me a few minutes mayne, you suck my balls cuz i wurk on mah own stoofed beamer" have to do with the fact we all paid for an inadequate, should not be ran under real time useage, overpriced walmart 3d printed products? No where did it state "bro, you're gonna have to electrical tape this 3 digit harness, and cut the coils up to make this "shit" work". I've done multiple single turbo installs on these cars, and I still don't agree with having to modify every part of this product we all paid good money for. Ability to work on these cars has nothing to do with buying dog shit at a premium.

I paid like $6k for one of the first Doc Race AWD kits out there...it didn't fit properly and I had to make some modifications. I got the AD Engineering motor mounts at the same time, I think I paid $350 for those, guess what? They didn't fit the AWD subframe on the passenger side either. VRSF shit? almost none of it fit properly, they have revised all their products multiple times in order to get everything dialed in.

My point is, unless you are new to modifying cars, you should know that aftermarket parts rarely have OEM fitment. This isn't only true on this platform, but all of them. Having to make slight modifications is part of the name of the game. If you don't want to deal with that, keep your car stock and everything will fit perfectly!

The other thing you guys need to realize is that these cars were $50k+ new. If $300 is a lot of money to you, you probably can't truly afford this car. Go price out a mil spec engine harness for anything else German and come back to me and let me know if $300 is still expensive.

Finally, Alex isn't making these harnesses to make enough money to retire off of, he is doing it for the good of the community. You guys are repaying him by being a bunch of whiny ass bitches. If you can do it better for cheaper, go do it!

The BL harness is far from milspec.

Don't even try, the guy is obviously the best BMW mechanic to ever walk this Earth. Nothing short of God's given gift. Give him horse shit, he will turn it into a m3 because boss status.

We tried to pull it on the R8 coils and had difficulty doing so. Would have been our preference as well. If you figure out how to easily pull it, post a photo or two and an explanation if you would. Thanks!

Filippo
Well, i just popped the two little "clips" at the bottom of the shielding, then i twisted and pulled. Thats it, shield was off.

You mean it didn't take you a team of people, this forum, and a safe space to pull the shield off? Mind = blown.
You literally are the ignorant BMW driver that everyone see's memes about. You could disappear off this forum and no one would care truthfully.

I think to the contrary my friend. BMW drivers are known for being naive, ignorant, etc. etc. You are probably the BMW owner at car meets with the BMW hat and shoes that takes their car to the dealer to diagnose their CEL from forgetting to tighten the gas cap....and then bitching about how it's a stupid design and it should tighten itself

Thanks. We popped the two steel clips and while we could shake the shield around, it just wouldn't seem to come loose. It hung on one side. Given we couldn't get inside the top, we didn't want to break anything. We didn't try a second one. Sounds like they generally come right out - who knows what was going on with the one we tried. Thanks for letting me know!

Just did all six of my R8 coils. Sleeves wiggle right off. Just took a needle nose and wiggled it back and forth. All 6 took less than 15 minutes to remove the shield and trim the top/bottom nubs.

Can any of you please tell me is it nessary to have the metal tube at the top, or can it all be removed?

It can be removed. The shielding is in the shaft on a BMW - which is why the stock coils don't have metal shielding.

You need to use a lot of strenght for them to really fit all the way down. I used a rubber hammer...

If you pull the heat shield off and trim the bottom tabs they fit fine. I personally don't think you need to trim the top part

I completly removed the external shield, trimmed everything flush. And believe me when you use the hammer, they go down a little bit more.

Does this have something to do with the shield being completely removed and the coil not being as stiff? With the partial shield, as we cut them at the beginning of this DIY, they pop right into place without a lot of effort.

I can't say, what do you mean by "pop right into place" ? Are you sure that the electrodes are making contact ?

What EXACT coils do you have? I have the Delphi ones, if you run them front to back they will seat all the way no problem. If you are hitting yours with a hammer you might be proving my point in the other thread (no offense).
