Found it. About 125$ plus shipping. I’m going to try some Pick and pull junk yards too. See if I can get one even cheaper. I hate being broke, lol. But by spring things should be a lot better. Patience is not a virtue of mine though. I love that carbon fiber you did, would love to DIY that!!

Cheaper here https://www.bmwpartswholesale.com/o...r-11127578858/?c=aT0xOTY1Mjc1NSZyPWxheWVyXzE=

There are supplement pieces like a bracket and hose for the entire setup that have to come from Germany. I have to put together a list so you dont run into the obstacles I ran into which can be very frustrating

Im not even sure if its a fair comparison. The ECS and aFe intake boxes relied on a inferior intake system regardless of upgraded inlets or not.

The 740i intake system has larger vacuum lines, larger area surface intake filter, straight flow intake, and now a beefed up custom 2.5" CF inlets that are shorter than the standard inlets.

Since I can take full advantage of a DCI setup as the Z4 does not have any air restriction as to Ambient Air this would be a much more better comparison.

I just got back tonight, no retuning ie same map as old DCI setup, I have a boost leak and still have lower wgdc

Curious if you plan to do some before / after logs for comparison? I've been interested since you began, but unsure the specific benefits. Quite a project!

Updates? Also, I know youre working on pricing but did you have a target price/roundabout price?

Also, did you have a roundabout sale date?

Nothing official at this time until testing is done to determine if its even going to be worth it. I have a lot going on here between tuning and trying to get this done and its a challenge. So, things are going to be extremely slow. The BQTuning Facebook page will usually be the place to find preliminary talks about ball park pricing etc.

Things have slowed down some on my side since half the world is on "ice"

Getting ready soon to get the car on a dyno hopefully this month. It will be the "same dyno" as before. All I have atm are VD number comparison from when I put down 503 whp back in 8/2016 on the old setup vs the new setup. I only use VD to show for gains and losses, so the actual numbers are taken with a grain of salt.

The old setup I used more boost on E60-E70 fuel
The new setup I used less boost on E45 fuel

Cheapest BMW source for OEM parts I found https://www.bmwpartswholesale.com/
Some items may have to come directly from Germany
Not taking any order yet for the CF inlets. If you want to start on own stuff go right ahead. Im just releasing this for you to be prepared ahead of time and aware of what your looking at in cost and ask questions about a particular part.

This setup is based on if you have a BOV. DV setup require additional plumbing and making a custom vent hole on the silicone elbow of the custom CF inlets with something like this from here
http://www.revotec.com/acatalog/Self-Sealing-Fittings-with-Push-On-Tail.html

I have not gotten around to the 3 and 1 series yet for test fit. This setup will not fit on these cars with the standard cowl. It more likely to fit with the M3 cowl (not verified) and I have to redesign the "rear" turbo inlet. The Z4 rear custom inlet is not compatible with the 3 and 1 series. This is gonna take some time, $$$$ and somebody missing their car for a week :tearsofjoy:

Great project! What's the current status regarding E92 fitment?

I have been sitting on this project. There have been significant changes to the coolant tank going back over to it orignal location but using a N55 coolant tank instead and redesigning the front inlet.

Ive beem extremely lazy tbh, going back and forth between hobbies.

Great right up and cool as well. But why does modifying these cars with after market parts make it a ricer or make it look like an American car under the hood?

Hello everyone.

BMW made two intake system styles for the N54 motor. The more prominent style that everyone is acquainted with is what is found in the 1 series, 3 series, 5 series and E89 . A lil RealOEM search of the engine block will pull this up http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...35is&mg=11&sg=10&diagId=11_3731&q=11110443605

The style 2 intake system as shown in the OP are found on the F01/F02 740i and the E71 X6 35ix with the exception the X6 intake box differs. IMO, the 740i intake box has a wider area straight flow design.

Now everyone has their likes and dislikes, my motivation in this is to bring something that keeps the OEM look but able to delivery similar or better performance to whats currently out their and lasts longer. This is not the best bang for the buck option, this is an option keeping your BMW looking like a BMW under the hood rather than trying to make a German car look like an American car or a ricer.

There is more to it than the parts shown, you have also the vacuum converters that I swapped for the 740i to run the proper diameter vacuum lines, which are larger, that connect to the vacuum box integrated into the engine cover.

After the inlets are made to go with this setup, people can source where they want to order their parts from used or new. We will supply the custom inlets as the OEM inlets will not fit the turbos for non 740i/X6 cars. The reason why is they are designed with a snap lock connection that connecting to the adapter on the TDO3 turbos specific for the 740i/X6

The custom inlet will be aluminum and heat coated. They will have an inside 2" diameter straight to stock or upgraded turbos, with compatible couplers, which will connect to the OEM inlet port that connects to the intake box

Aluminum inlets will last longer, and are more durable. The catch to all this though, for the 1, 3, and 5 series this setup is not compatible with the factory cowl that came with these cars. The 3 series cars have an alternative to do an M3 cowl conversion to allow more engine room in the back. I dont know whats available for the 1 series as far as what can be converted to allow more engine backroom to fit the setup in the OP. We havent tested fitment on any of these yet though. My E89 Z4 was the best candidate for the conversion due to the amount of space it has under the hood with no issues so we can move on to obtain other relevant data before turning to the 1 and 3 series cars IF it will be worth it.

Depends on the parts and how they look. Imo, the factory style look is best because it means the fit, finish, material choices, etc are all well thought out and executed, unlike taking some polished aluminum elbows and throwing some colorful silicone couplers and cheap clamps on and having some mismatched gaudy engine bay that looks like shit.
