Are we nearly at the point where the N54 finally runs an ET worthy of the engine power?

Here are some facts first
  • DCT cars have launch control - The gearbox is straight from an M5/M5
  • On f10 M5 cars with big power we’ve seen amazing ets without breaking the car.(deep into the 9s)
  • The difference between an m3/m5 and 335 DCT is the 335i DSC doesnt allow for launching without DSC intervention
  • The 335i DCT shifts are comfort and sport but not “race”
  • The 335i rear end and drive shaft is made of butter
  • Traction is woeful
  • The target launch RPM cannot be easily adjusted
So given that there are some lightweight cars and cars with big power (1000hp+), traction and the following things have now been achieved...
  • There are people running M3 DSC modules (one guy(as I understand him is running an amalgam of M3 and 335i DSCs in fact) and are running reduced intervention routines on road and race cars.
  • M3 rear ends(or ADE 8.8) can withstand huge amounts of power
  • 335is can be retrofitted with M3 DCT shift patterns via upgraded GWS,
  • M3 DSC can be retrofitted to N54's
  • Adjustable target RPM can be set via the M3 GWS or via flash time setting
Who will be the first to try and will we see ETs tumble?

One of the major things many many people are missing even on M3 DCT swaps when going to the strip is a proper suspension and tire setup. Everyone seems to think "max HP" is the key and first which isnt the case. It's been shown that with the right suspension and tire setup plus some weight reduction an e90 335i can make it to low 10s on stock turbos and a stock AT.

Very few have the full package yet, and that's the issue. If anyone with a launch control DCT had a 28" tire and the right suspension + ~600hp they'd easily be in the 9s with a good launch. I'm personally hoping to achieve 9s on my stock AT and rear end with my MMP 1Ks this season now that I have a "custom" drag suspension in the rear and have 28" tall 10.5" wide tires going on soon. I'm gonna run it with stock fueling and trans/diff to see how far I can get and slowly upgrade more from there, but I expect low 10s before needing anything else.

I agree, no one has the complete package yet. The closest ive seen are the few N54 M3 drivetrain converted cars. But youre right without tyres and suspension you arent going anywhere fast. Good luck with your setup !

Please give me more information! Are there Links for more information? I need that!

What we really need are better options for the 6AT. Either an aftermarket TC with a much higher stall, or some form of trans braking. Either will allow you to build boost on the launch so you arent wasting time waiting for your turbos to spool. Even though twins spool quickly, they still arent able to make anywhere near close to full boost towards the front half. Being able to leave at 15+ psi is what's needed now, especially with options for drag shocks and running giant slicks that wont be overpowered by the lower end tq.

@Keko ... welcome Alessandro ... I'm bringing in a friend and new member from Brazil, with a Z4 running real power with the Z4 DCT.

Apparently you can Flash an M3 DSC program onto your 335i DSC using BMW standard tools.
I’ve haven’t seen it done personally. If you have an LSD then the M3DSC might be for you. If you want more information then the M3 DCT swap threads in the drivetrain section have the most information. The person claiming this is a reliable source by the way and in due course he’ll let us know.

Oh Sir! Thank you so much! Will just dive into the topic. I hope there is a way to code it without having to buy much other hardware.

Apparently the M3 DCT flash (including the GTS) only supports a max of 15.5bar line pressure while the stock 335is will command up to 18bar.

Payam:

In regards to your above comment, do you know which flash is the best for the DCT trans?

I can tell you my DCT shifts are incredibly violent. If they were any more so I feel like things would break. I don't believe 335s with M3 mods have more aggressive shifts than I do.
This is thanks to my DME tune and the perceived torque.

The 135is flash is best but you need a proper DME flash or back end flash with JB4 as the DME and TCU function together.

Hi! I have a back en d flash made by Trebila. Do you care to share any info? You can send me a private message if you prefer.

Thanks

I don’t believe the 135is is the best flash. I think the z4is flash is the one we should be using as it had the highest peak power of any n54 car fitted with DCT. The main reason we use the 135is flash is the 3500rpm launch. The z4 flash also has this.

This is part of the reason that I introduced @Keko - Alessandro do you have any insight on this?
