Similar spool but way more power! The compressor map is a lot wider then the 8374/9180

If you look closely that is because the actual Inducer MM of the compressor wheel has changed. Juts like any other turbo, make a wheel bigger the map will move to the right, thus extending the map and flow of the turbo. Its a ~74mm inducer which is HUGE for our 3.0L I6.

Is there any info on the physical dimensions? Would be nice if the package was smaller (although unlikely)

I wonder how the black series 8474 compares to the old 9180... same power better spool? both seem maxed out at 95 lb/min

I take that back the 9180 has a different compressor map then the 8474

The 9180 has a more Efficient compressor map than the 8474

Did a quick and dirty overlay, idk they look pretty similar to me.

The 8474 seems to have a better surge line and the 9180 is able to hit higher pressures it looks like, but max flow is the same.

Peak efficiency is better on the 9180 @ 77% while the 8474 is @ 75%. Looks like they traded peak efficiency for surge protection. Our motors are big enough so we shouldn’t have to worry about surging.

I'm more concerned about spool since at the end of the day it's a big turbo. If the 8474 will spool faster while making the same power then that's what I'll get

Here is some more detailed info that I posted on the linked thread that's related and also has overlays from BW.

This past SEMA Borg Warner mentioned they are finally going to release what was past considered "Black Series" with the EFR 8474, 9274 and 9280. The compressor wheels will be anodized black to differentiate between existing EFR Series.

9280 vs. 9180 = Same 91mm Exducer, but 9280 has 74mm Inducer and 9180 has 68mm Inducer.
9274 vs. 9174 = Same 91mm Exducer, but 9274 has 74mm Inducer and 9174 has 68mm Inducer.
8474 vs. 8374 = Same 84mm Exducer, but 8474 has 68mm Inducer and 8374 has 62mm Inducer.

Here are some release notes - some shops are already starting to receive the turbos.

As you are looking at the 9180 below are some overlays.

Compressor Map Comparison - with a few others thrown in for good measure for others that are interested.

8474 should spool quicker since its using smaller compressor wheel. 68 Inducer 84 exducer compare to the 9180 68mm Inducer and 91mm exducer.
