GS6-53DZ swap to GS6-45BZ?

Hi,

when I installed my twin disc clutch I noticed that my input shaft of the transmission (GS6-53DZ) have to much play. The shifts between the gears are also not as smooth. It feels like the gears not synchronize as the should. So I think it is the reason of the play in the input shaft.
So I was searching a used transmission. At this time I found aut the new GS6-45BZ would also fit, I also need to change the cardan wave from the N55.
The GS6-45BZ is a newer generation, shifts smoother and weighs 10KG / 22lb less than the 53DZ.
Have anyone done the swap yet?

I know @AzNdevil has just imported a 6MT, not sure which version it is. The 45BZ comes in which cars? I think it is the transmission in the F80 and maybe even the 1 series?

The 53DZ comes with the N54, the 45BZ comes with N55 engines, also the 1 series M (N54).
And on the M2,M3,M4 but with a lager bell hosing.
B58 also have the 45BZ but not sure about the bell housing. After double check, the B58 have a different starter position.
Gear ratio ist always the same.

Well considering its a manual I can't imagine too many issues but you never know. I'm curious to see what you find out.

I have a spare N55 (45BZ) box over here if you like. The shifter parts are different, and the driveshaft is 20mm longer with the N55 trans (although the slip yoke between the two driveshaft halves should make up the difference. Also, the 45BZ uses a pilot bushing in the flywheel instead of the 53BZ nipple arrangement, so you will have to convert yours. I've run both on my car and I prefer the 45BZ, plus its 13kg lighter :)

this pretty much sums it up... there are 2/3 revisions of the 53DZ box... the hgx version supposingly has better synchros but its not easy to find one with low miles... the jdc ones are easier to find but personally have tried a few and they either feel shitty shifting into 2nd or into 3rd

also, the internals of the 53DZ is stronger than the 45BZ according to google so if you are like 600rwhp+ then this might not be an option for you

on top you will need to do the flywheel and driveshaft to match the gearbox and maybe the driveshaft... unless you have a box laying around already its probably not be worth it

That´s right, driveshaft is what I mean with cardan wave. My rusty shitty English :laughing:
The nipple at my flywheel can be removed, it´s only an insert. at this time I also prefer the 45BZ. Regarding the shifter I think they will also fit on the 45BZ.
Thanks for the offer, but I thing the shipping from Lebanon to Germany would very expensive. I found a low mileage trans for 800€ here.

Thanks for the Info, so I will look if I found a low mileage HGX version. my current trans is TJGK and is horror to shift.
Regarding the trans Label 53DZ and 45BZ the 53DZ should hold more power, but I think the 45BZ will hold also more power, the 45BZ is also mounted with the S55 engines. I´ve not plan to go more than 600rwhp.

Flywheel will prepare by my self, driveshaft is around 150€, 45BZ is around 800€ so it is less then 1000€. the 53DZ cost here around 1500€ an thats not the HGX version.
