Hey guys, new to the forum. I've been hunting a nice f10 xdrive for a while now to stick a monster of an engine in. I finally found and purchased one and it will be here Wednesday May 6th.

The car will be single turbo built motor and capable of 1000whp+

I want an incredibly reliable engine and will be going outside the norm with the build.

In the next few weeks (after I find a core engine) we will be scanning the bed plate to machine from billet, possibly doing the same for billet crank. I will be running CP coated pistons and a set of Saenz rods. Ported head with complete valvetrain a topped off with a nice doc race manifold. My plan is to have Motiv do all of the tuning. Should be a good time. I'll update here with progress along the way.

Thanks,

Johnathan

Welcome Johnathan!

Thanks for sharing your build here. Would be great to see some the 3d scanning work.

Where you located?

I'm in Fort Worth Texas. I will gladly share the entire process. I'll post and update it along the way. I still need to sort out transmission options. Obviously the zf8 isn't going to want to play forever. I reached out to AltoUSA to see what they have to offer.

Sweet! Your F10 535 xDrive is basically what my F25 X3 is based on. Lots of part interchange. Happy to see a big HP N55 build! I plan on doing ZF 8HP45 upgrades eventually, maybe this year. Sounds like you're gonna need it.

What are the details of your build? Power output? I haven't found anyone who has put beefier bits the zf8. Do you have a link? Thanks a bunch!

Most details in signature. Was running PS2 north of 20 psi, but kept blowing them up. Bought a BB 3.4 but Juan sent the 3.3 instead. So, I'll be running a 61 or 65 mm turbo, depending on if Juan's good for his word or not.

In terms of the transmission built, I've done high performance transmission builds in the past, adding clutches and running tighter clutch pack clearances. I just started on the 8HP45 a couple of weeks ago, but it looks like I can add a third more clutches to the C and E packs, where they usually give up first, so that's where I'm starting. Once I've got prototypes built and working, I'll be listing up clutch pack and build kit combos for sale for folks to install themselves or have their local transmission shop do for the. Not super into doing full transmission builds and shipping them around the world. Done that before, just not worth it.

Wow. Sounds awesome. I don't see your signature. Maybe because I'm using my phone and not a computer. Post a picture of your car in here.

Yeah I'd definitely be interested in throwing more clutches at it. I might flash the ZF motorsports software on it as well. See how that helps, maybe just do xhp stage 3. Rod Sutphin said he will be getting into tuning them soon. He is a trusted bud. I just know the trans is going to hate xdrive and horsepower.

I'm in San Antonio with a separated core with crank from a 2011 335i N55. Let me know if you have any interest, I'd let it go cheap if you wanted to pick it up.

All n55 blocks are the same? I know the heads changed. If like to find a forged crank. What do you want for the setup? Bed plate still there?

All of the blocks are the same. Differences are in the oil pump and the accessories. I'll PM you some pics and details.

N54 crank fits but then the harmonic dampener is off by a few mm for the acc belt. Besides the most likely fake crack n55 crank picture (fake that it happened on a car due to high power), please show me a need for an upgraded crank.

Weehe, ABR and Ghassan have both seen broken n55 cranks. I'm also not looking to have a crank failure trash what is going to be a very expensive n55.

Those would be the failures I'd take with a grain of salt. But I 100% understand wanting to protect an expensive build.

If going the OEM forged crank route I'd recommend getting one from a N55 M2.

the crank from a ewg m135i and m235i are also forged
Good to know. Thank you. Lots of knowledge in here. I've been in the BMW world for a long time, just not the turbo game for long. I appreciate the input from everyone.

Firstly, amazing project, would really like to see some of the details in how you do the bedplate work.

I'm in Fort Worth Texas. I will gladly share the entire process. I'll post and update it along the way. I still need to sort out transmission options. Obviously the zf8 isn't going to want to play forever. I reached out to AltoUSA to see what they have to offer.

Since you have the ZF8 from the get go, is there any chance it could be upgraded to work with some of the larger ZF8 models?

Doublespaces -

I'm hoping that I will be able to find some good aftermarket solutions. AltoUSA should be able to help me. Haven't heard back yet. My second option was do just as you said, use the beefier clutch packs and springs of the larger transmissions. I want to maintain the xdrive and transfer case, so output will have to stay stock.

I will update the project as it gets underway. I may do a downpipe and tune now for sounds and fun. The car delivery date did get delayed one day...šŸ˜•
