Car: 2010 135i fbo, inlets outlets stage 2 pump full e85 and tbi
so i am doing the turbos, oil pan gasket, valve cover, water pump, thermostat, csf radiator, setrab oil coolers, lsd, pulleys and belts, and engine mounts, switching from 5" stepped fmic to 7.5 race fmic, plugs and coils have a little over a year and a half but bought new ones just to be safe. i was going to replace all the coolant hoses as they are stock and i am now at 95k miles, have owned the car since 50k. regular oil changes {3-4k miles) with a couple of blackstone reports that all looked good
Do most people replace these? they are cheap (little over 100$ for all of them)so i figured while im there might as well do it. already replaced the fitting to the engine with the metal one when i did the ofhg. definitely the plastic one on top of the radiator. still on the original water pump, i know its just a matter of time, especially with at least 30 hard track days.

i want to upgrade the fuel lines as well, already have the cont e85 sensor. i know the fuel filter is in the bucket, wondering if i should get a new fuel pump or just put the inline filter everyone is doing when they upgrade the lines. currently have stage 2 bucketed from 3 years ago and cant loose the bucket since i track a lot and dont feel like dropping all the money on hydramats. my hpfp and injectors i replaced last year.

last but not least is i have vtt silicone outlets from 2 years ago, other than it popping off the connection to the fmic haven't had any problems but was considering getting the new aluminum ones since they are on sale for 200$.

just looking for any advice.
thanks

I personally have not replaced them, as my car is still at 60k miles, but if you're in there and you've already bought them, then replace them.

My understanding, there is a 'sock' type thing on the fuel pump which acts as a large micron filter to prevent pump damage, and then there is another filter on the fuel tank level assembly on the driver side of the vehicle. This is actually the filter you should probably be changing, holley has stated that hydramats shouldn't be used as an in tank filter for daily use, because they will get clogged very quickly due to their design.

The filter people are adding closer to the engine, is actually a replacement for the screen filter inside of the HPFP.

My Z4 is different, in that everything is mounted through one access hole, and you have to get to it from under (and drop the exhaust). So be happy :). That said, these cars don't have rail fuel filter logs like prior generation. The in-tank filter, and the little pesky HPFP filter. We had a lot of recent discussion on removing the HPFP filter. If I'm right your in-tank filter is easily accessed by popping the rear seat and access plate? How many miles? If you are not sensitive to the $150 price, I'd replace the filter along with the in-tank pump and call it a day. If you are sensitive to the price, then well it is easy to get to and replace when it has an issue.

I am very suspect of BMW's treatment of the in-tank filter. The previous log filters had a 30k service interval (which I find insane, as they could go much longer) but I believe the in-tank filters are treated as "lifetime" filters. On my 2011 Z4 I did it at 30k miles because it is a PITA to get to (and now my complete fuel system is new).

If it was me, on an 8-9 year-old car, I'd just replace the in-tank filter and not give it a second thought. But I'm a bit OCD that way. Good luck!

Im literally about to do my stage 3 bucketless and have been trying to decide to use the Hydramats. this is a daily driver. After reading your statement about the hydramats ( didn't have any idea they made that statement.) what are the other options for the intank filter?

Yes, I see that. Thanks, Filippo.
But I’m trying to drill down further and am curious as to exactly where is the fuel filter located in part no. 16147163296 “Repair kit, fuel filter/press. regulator”.
I guess it’s somewhere in-line with the fuel line, yes?

That fuel filter is the complete plastic housing. The filter itself is not removable from the housing. The repair "kit" is basically a complete assembly.

the car has 93k, i,ve owned it 4 years and since 50k, i've done all the maint and have been on borrowed time with the waterpump. i am sure that the filter is original as the top hat is original. we have twins due in september and the house i just signed contracts on needs a garage built so i am doing everything to the car in the next month or two so hopefully not much to do for the next year or two but drive it when i can. i will just order the vdo whole assembly as it can be had for 150$.

i plan to keep the car for a while as its paid off and to get into something as fast and as fun would be a big chunk more than i'm willing to spend. knock on wood this car has been great besides the normal yearly coil and plug changes and doing the ofhg. replaced all injectors 2 years ago to index 12 and did the hpfp to be on the safeside. tracked the car over 40 days and besides the oil temps i cant complain it has skipped a beat. its no e46 for the track but i am not the greatest driver.

...and what was the condition of the fuel filter? Did it look dirty or otherwise clogged?

@Twinz thanks for the picture. I can’t tell from the pictures whether that black color of the filter is dirt or not. Did the filter look clogged and dirty?

My first post on this amazing forum. I own a 335i, 2009 model from new. I pulled the left side regulator/fuel filter when I did the external FPR mod and had to block off the internal regulator. Curiosity took over and out with the dremel and the pix are the result.:dizzy:

The paper filter "looks" dirty in the pix but I think its more decoleration because of all the fuel types I have used over the years. Ethanol mixes and NF octane booster and 109 racefuels. There was no signs of clogging in the filter. My low pressure fuel pump filter sock looked worse.

The thing that struck me most were all the apparent restrictions in the line.

More pix may explain it better than I can.

Thanks to @doublespaces for the warm welcome via pm.
