Like the title states does anyone know what the max whp for the N54 open deck engine is?
Curious to know as im thinking of putting pistons & rods but dont know if i should go closed deck or not? Im not trying to touch 900-1000whp
My main goal is to be right around 800whp and have it last a good amount of time.
Any answers help.
And yes car will be on E85 it already made 700whp on current setup just would like to add some more power.
Thanks

Probably not a bad idea for longevity (more block strength for the bump in cyl pressure you are wanting). Its a "while you are there" along with arp stud bolt upgrades on the head etc. Then again where do you stop?

Where the block fails at what power on n54s is an interesting question (without a secondary cause - rod going through it or bad fuel/tune ) . They seem to have lots of good supporting elements built in around the crank and block . Are they known to crack anywhere?

Yes im aware that it will be power over time,
But if i can save 2k from not doing closed deck it will be put into the head. Just so it flows better and uses less boost to make same power maybe it will put less stress on block? Lol just thinking of the top of my head

Good idea. You can also focus less on peak and more on average power. Also, throw some money at getting the power down too. 800rwhp is pointless if you cant stick 700rwhp down.

i have 15” conversion and car hooks good plus boost by gear in 1-2 so trans wont skip.

ovaled out two cylinders on open deck engine. Took some harsh treatment and over 35 Psi with 70mm turbo daily driven and abused but was possible.

Once you cross the 600whp mark you quickly expose any shortcomings or weakness in the suspension. Be prepared for subframe bushings and a significant suspension upgrade.

Close deck isn't expensive. Get your motor down to bare block and send it off to CSS. Its like 8 or 900. Just don't have them drill out the head studs. Take that somewhere else. I have built my motor twice. First time was just rods and pistons. Then due to some shit, I had to rebuild. But the second time I did it all. Closed deck and sleeves. You will save yourself time, money, and headache if you just button everything up now. And if you don't end up doing it, buy all your gaskets from FCP Euro.

Thanks man, appreciate the advice. I tottaly forgot about css. Im going to call and get a quote. As long as motor holds 800whp ill be happy.

found it, the recommendation was simply to close the deck if your building a motor and that ovalling does occur. no whp put to that.
css seems to be the go to cost effective solution, they rate their n54/55 insert to 900whp.
