The AMG GT 53 and AMG CLS 53(among others) will sport the new M256 3.0 liter turbo inline six power plant. This new engine was designed around a 48 volt electrical system and comes with a twin scroll turbo and some variations also include an electric supercharger(eZV). All known M256 models come with an Integrated Starter-Alterator(ISG) which is located inside the transmission bell housing. This type of technology has also been called a Belt Alternator Starter(BAS) by other manufacturers but located on the engine pulley system rather than inside of the transmission bell housing area. The ISG will double as not only a starter, but also a generator and electric motor which can provide about 15 kw of additional power for getting the engine going after leaving from a stop as well as coasting while on the highway.
