I worked out the tune issue. Made sure the min voltage was set to .50v eca is reading properly. But nothing is removing the 2abc code.

I will remove the eca and flash back to stock see what happens from there. I am curious. If you have purchased the flex module and flash a ots pump map does it always add the flex logic from that point on?

As I said, what is your altitude? The min voltage table is not always the cure for that code for some reason. I have had to make one other bute change on many to keep it away.

For FF logic, flashing a V8 pump map will always add it.

Ok sweet. A v7 pump map will not obv.

I have never checked it. Google says 92 feet. Brisbane qld. Australia

IF YOU ARE HAVING VOLTAGE SPIKES IN YOUR ETHANOL CONTENT SENSOR Reading!

Here is the definitive fix.

xeq3h5.jpg

Problem:
When a secondary fuel pump activates and deactivates via relay, usually through a hobb's switch trigger, a voltage spike occurs in the ethanol content sensor reading. This causes forces the flex fuel box into an error reading and causes a host of related problems.

Other devices especially high amperage draw devices such as electric fans can cause the same issue.

Solution:
Check your relay. A normal relay with out suppression will not work.
My precision race works fuel pump harness came with an non suppressed relay causing this issue.
A relay with diode suppression, such as bosch part # 0332019155 or equivalent 12v 40amp diode suppressed will work.

Very nice Greg, thank you again!

One thing to add, since a diode has polarity (it's directional), the relay pins 85/86 are no longer interchangeable for 12V and ground. So make sure to look at the diagram (usually on the relay itself) for how the diode relates to the pins.

Hi guys,

I installed the Motiv Flexfuel stuff today. Everything went smooth.
Now when starting the car, the engine wants to run but as soon as the rpm goes to idle (700ish), it dies.

I flashed Stage2+ 98RON before hand and engine ran fine. Then installed the sensor and engine ran fine. Then installed the wires and now i have this issue.

I am checking all the wires now. Any other ideas about what this could be?

I read someone else had this same issue earlier in the topic. He build everything back and had a working car. Then reinstalled everything again and it worked for him.

I checked all wires and connections and i can't find any problems.
MHD logging shows 0.64v and 5.5% ethanol content. Sounds rights.

When i use the throttle to stop the engine from idleing; it keeps running. But as soon as i let go of the throttle, it dies.

Solved! I think it was some air in the fuel line which did crazy stuff.

Install ethanol sensor, go for a drive, then install the Motiv stuff.

One thing i forgot to mention the second time around was that before it died, i gave it some gas. Felt like the motor was dying.

I feel I paid too much for the Motiv kit. Next to that, the kit was not correct. You need 2 larger quickconnect couplings (sensor side) and 2 smaller ones (car side) I got 3x large and 1x small in the kit and basically could not continue installation. I managed to solve it my cutting up the old line to use that connector, and connect the other side to the sensor with a clamp. I will fix this later on.

Started off easy with 17% ethanol. I mix it myself with 100% ethanol. Not from any pump.

All looks good to me apart from a slight timing correction. I think it's the fuel (Shell V-Power 93oct) which seemed to contain 5% ethanol so it could be mixed with 91oct. I will see if the stock LPFP can supply some E30 next.

Hmmm...i have no idea what you ordered, the kit I got was full with all parts a year install was perfect if done as instructed.

Your description is completely incongruent to the kit I got from motiv. There was zero issues and all parts were supplied as needed. Nothing was missing.

You're saying that you orderd from them directly and got knockoff stuff and incomplete kit? Please confirm.

LOL, he has now changed his story. Originally it was just that he overpaid for it, and that it was a GM sensor instead of a continental because it looked a bit different. He didn't realize that there are 3 models all with the same part number and GM uses any of them. Jake put him in his place because he said he could order the sensor from Alibaba for twenty bucks.

I ordered everything from Motiv. So thats the sensor + short line kit, and the actual Flexfuel dongle.
The dongle stuff was all in order and worked like a charm. A lot of time went into developing this thing so the price is justified.

What everyone else got thier panties in a bunch about was my comments on the sensor+short fuel line kit. I feel this is way over priced as you can get the original sensor directly from China for just 20 bucks and American's don't like to hear this. Very patriotic i guess. You can even get the sensor from a legitimate US source for under 50 bucks if you too think anything from China is evil.
That's why i feel 220 bucks for the kit is not justified. If i had to do this again, i would purchase the sensor and fuel line seperatly and save 120+ bucks.
No stories got changed and if anyone got put it places; it's you and you've placed yourself there.

As for my specific sensor+fuel line order; it was not supplied with the correct fittings (see picture) so check if you have 2 of each before installing. 2 small, 2 large. The actual problem is that the inside diameter of the coupling this twists into, differs. The fuel line on the car is smaller than then ethanol sensor fuel line.
Mistakes can happen. I sent them an E-mail and im sure everything will be handled correctly.

You can get many things from China for 20 bucks. And you should if you don't care about quality control.

As for your connections not matching...sometimes mistakes are made...as long as the company corrects them that's all that matters.

Yes you can order many things from China and No that does not mean you don't care about quality control. Many item's are exactly what they are advertised as which is often the same product that came from the official assembly line.
All your messages so far seem to be based on assumptions and little personal experience. There is lack of support in your messages anyway. Now go ahead and actually get yourself informed and ask me or anyone else (this Chinese turbo topic perhaps?) about Chinese parts before you continue your anti-Chinese ranting.

Agree. As stated earlier. I'm sure Motiv will handle this accordingly.

I take it you have not done any research on the $20 china sensors. They are junk and do not read correctly. I can see if you wanted to roll the dice if you were just checking content, but on a flex fuel setup you would be crazy not to run a genuine sensor.

I work with supply chain for many products. The only good Chinese products are ones with strict quality control. Otherwise, you will get what you pay for. That is not a debate. VRSF for example...horrible fitment, chinese made...cheap to buy. Got a down pipe for e93 335i and it took no less than 5 downpipe gaskets to close the gap and one of their o2 bungs was threaded backwards which destroyed the thread on an o2 sensor upon install.

Stop getting your head all hot. Chinese products are not all bad, but if you bought a BMW and you are looking for cheap cheap... then beware that you get what you pay for. It doesn't matter if it's Chinese or Bangladesh or America... there is shit all over the place.

At this point, you might as well tell us you can buy a Korean car for $30K less than a BMW. Well... then do it. Good lord.

Any one suggesting using the Chinese copy ethanol content sensors... Don't. You are asking for trouble by trying to save 40-60 bucks. Why risk it and end up with potentially a blown motor. All the tuners I've spoke with who have had experience with them suggest very high failure rates, and very poor accuracy. Not all Chinese products are bad, but this replica part isn't something i'd suggest using given it's importance.

After several friendly E-mails and weeks later; Motiv has failed to reply and fix the issue for me.
Another reason for me to not recommend buying the E sensor kit from Motiv unfortunatly.
