My poor outlet install caught up with me

@Rob09msport BTW where that MMP outlet split ... nowhere close to a heat source.

We'll pull vac canisters, aluminum heat shield, and coolant tank. Plenty of room to work. I will likely replace the t-bolt clamps with constant tension clamps.

Bingo. Possibly coupled with the fact that (iirc) MMP is the only one who's silicone outlets route the exact same way as the stock outlets, which might be worse for silicone but I'm just spitballing here.

I really don't like to say anything straight up negative about vendors that I haven't used but I'm gonna stay as far away from MMP stuff as possible personally. Way too many failures and it appears it's not even *possible* that the MMP products could have an issue when people reach out to them after a failure. Despite new, updated versions of the same products coming out later to fix issues the first ones *didn't* have.

For some reason every time we state this it falls on deaf ears, as if we have something to gain by saying it or something lol.. but will try it again.

You do not need outlets as upgraded units will do little to nothing for you. Just put back on your stock outlets, on your LHD stock turbos, and enjoy.

FWIW we do not even push outlets on our customers buying up to RB Next Gens, of which we rate (conservatively) at 500-550whp; as compared to OEM turbos which we rate for up to 425whp.

In short, you do not need them, not even close.

Oh, let me guess, it's all in the tune? Get fucking real. Care to look at the charts again? And I'll give you the logs so you can see where the best tuner in the business put his reputation on the line to help a vendor he has no connection with.

Think the title is perfect quite frankly, as for you it seems just like another "poor outlet install catching up to you". Be thankful even with a poor install you made it 7,500 miles that is quite the miracle. ;)
Now i have more confirmation. Besides using diff vendor or gorilla taping outlets what could he have done different that would have improved install. I honestly dont see anything wrong with install ,thats a tight spot and the outlet just split didnt burn.

Hey look it is Billy Bad Ass stock turbo guy chiming in about his beefcake 425whp N54.

We've looked at your charts before, here is what we see in layman terms for you:
1) You made good delta up to 5500rpm. Nice. Off to a sweet start.
2) Then you made damn near identical everything from 5500rpm to 7000rpm, only a very marginal increase post outlets in that upper RPM band.

With this and a little common sense we can deduce that the OE outlets, which are thought to (and will at some point obviously greater than OE turbo potentials) impede flow; are holding up very well as they are flowing very close to the same figures in terms of power output where the airflow demand is the HIGHEST in the upper RPM band.

On top of this we have had much clientele over the years and many guys in the low-mid 5xx whp range. Many of them big time drag racers and the like, have found next to no gains in that range. Even into the higher 5xx whp to lower 6xx whp ranges, the traps are only marginally better. Most of the records you will see online, from ourselves and other turbo vendors, are actually all running the OE outlets. All stated if you are making small power, like yourself for example, this is a mod than can be overlooked for quite some time. Not just based on the one lame duck paper race case that you present, but based on hundreds of real world drag racing over years.

In a nutshell the consumer can feel free to spend their money elsewhere until they get to the point where it is warranted, with that we have laid out some basic power ranges where we would consider such things.

The PSP will be installed correctly thanks to @NoQuarter leading the way with his Z4 - I'll just follow his lead. I think I'm going to grab some constant tension clamps instead, though, instead of that V-band stuff. If someone knows the clamp diameter for the PSP stuff (so I can order the clamps before I get the PSP) that would be nice!

No difference with the PSP pipes. The stock clamp is used.

Some alternatives. Rather than doing a heat wrap get a better high heat resistant silicone coupler or weld on an SS Flex bellow coupling . I haven't decided yet which direction I want to go, but I want to eliminate as much silicone as I can. Just sharing some ideas people can do to customize their own setup.

I like the looks of that coupler. Getting the fastening right seems tricky for sure.

Wouldn't do welding even if it was easy. This outlet works best being able to work with it in 2 pieces. I would try a clamp on metal flex pipe of some sort I think.
