Go buy a painted BBQ pit from Walmart and light a few 600f fires in it. Watch all the paint peel off and rust kick in. Now look at a turbine housing and realize they get 1600f regularly. You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to see how it could go bad.

I like to think the BMW paint is a bit higher quality than the cheapo chinese made walmart BBQs but I get your point. A webber grill does not have this issue which is what I would equate bmw to.

Your compressor and DP are coated like mine. Once you wrap the DP and use a turbo blanket I don't see why you would need to put gold tape everywhere? Or are you not planning on either? I have heard that the chrome coating will dull with heat cycles but no 1st hand experience. Hopefully it does not, because it looks great.

I have not heard of people complaining on this platform that their ST made their paint peel off. Have you? If so, it certainly does not come up a lot.

Anywho just curious, as you hear some stories where all people did was wrap the DP and they were fine, other people insulate every line and even then use gold tape on everything.

edit: I don't think anything beats white lightning. other than that welded insulation stuff which looks like it takes forever to install. Don't even know it's name.

The insulating pad on the hood of my 535 looks like sh$t but I was always afraid to remove thinking the paint on the hood might be a problem from the hot engine.

Then I started paying attention to how close the single turbos are to the hood and decided it must not be an issue. Removed the insulating pad and looks much better now.

Are we talking propane, charcoal, or wood burning grills lol.the BTU potentials vary significantly

Randy likes his burgers cooked on only propane burners on high with the lid closed so you can get that 700F sear.

My polisher was just finishing up some 18k gold plated parts. I was thinking about getting my compressor housing plated in 18k gold to really make people's head implode hahaha.

Gold plate everything. Then sell it to some lower middle class kid in Dubai.

That lower middle class kid who makes 3x more than the 99% of Americans right?

Now I'm depressed at my mediocre station in life and only baubles made of semi-precious metals will make me feel better :(

Too much "chrome" for me, but that is some well polished aluminum!

I've never built anything like this. But I figured that if I was already shoving a turbo in the faces of anyone who pops my hood then I might as well have a pretty setup.

It'll get some attention for sure!
