Any chance of another multi gear pull to redline as a direct comparison to your earlier log?
Seems you backed off early, but it looks promising based on how clean your timing is.

I seen some test that gained around 2hp from cooler fuel on a NA car, but I'm sceptical.
... which is likely within measurement error +/-.
This is a 2 dollar mod, don't expect earth shattering gains if any..
Oh be fair - there are plenty of expensive mods that yield no improvements!

I'm more inclined to believe the gain was from lower cylinder temps but not the actual fuel.

I went to do a job inspection today in my 1m the surface temp difference was 42c or 107f between the head/rail and
it was measured 2min after the engine was switched off.

As stated how much benefit I dont know but no matter how you look at it, who wouldn't do this for 2 dollars worth of washers.

I'm more optimistic than you probably think, if you knew me very well I'm quick to suggest overly complicated contraptions. An active cooling solution would be interesting discussion if there were a benefit to be had.

You dont want to over cool the fuel in a di setup as heat helps with atomization of the fuel, but you also dont want it too hot.

I don't have fancy testing equipment so I can test it any further but maybe someone else can develop this idea further.

Until you can upload some multi gear logs so we can make a direct comparison, I'll be sceptical this made such a difference. Especially as you've not even revved to redline.

That wont happen for a long time as all tracks are closed and the po po are everywhere.

All i seen is less timing pull down low, if its got anything to do with temps I dont know.

In the end its a 2 dollar mod that halves the fuel temp which is worth it in hot climates like mine, colder climates might not see the benefit.

If people want to do the mod or not it's up to them, this is what I observed amongst other little mods that add up to significant gains as seen on @Popeye car.

His HPFP pump was maxed out at 356rwk, I done some mods to the fuel system and raised his rail prssure back up and his tuner was able to extract a few more psi out of his car netting him another 41rwk and his HPFP rail pressure is still over 1500psi where it was dipping into the 1000psi range.

This phenolic gasket mod was only a part of other mods that helped him.

spacer - washer - spacer. Really no other combo. BTW if you put a a Spoolstreet sticker on your car, when you add this mod, it will add 8whp. That's unverified but you can take it to the bank nonetheless. Also - $2 mod, I predict will be a top 5 posts thread this year lol.

I highly recommend titanium washers. It saves about 2.5g total weight on this mod. I'm working on getting M7 titanium studs turned, as we speak.

Stickers always make you go faster especially with high performance adhesive. :)

Thanks again OP. I have all of my parts as well as a skeptical look from my wife when the tattoo spacers arrived. “Really, it’s for your car?”

I drove my car for an hour.
Oil temp was 110C, 230F when I stopped. I have 2 engine oil coolers.
Valve cover read 79C
Oil filter housing 80C 176F
Ambient air temp 18C 64F
Top of a coil pack 43.4C

Fuel rail temp near cyl 2 45.1C 113F
Fuel rail temp near cyl 5 43.7C 110F

Not sure how the ops fuel rail is getting so hot.

Although. I always drive without an engine cover. It's a noise dampener but also a heat trap.
I drive without a cowl. Also a sound dampener and a big heat trap.

Maybe the Vtt double shotgun setup and fuel rail is flawed?
They can send me one and I'll fit it to my car free of charge to test

People keep saying the cowel is a heat trap like BMW didn’t do aerodynamic testing on these cars...it is not a heat trap. It closes off the top of the bay and forces the air in the bay to exit on the underside of the car. When you remove your cowel, you upset that flow, create more turbulence/drag, and likely cause higher under hood temps.

That all said, I’m also a perpetrator as I have the M3 cowel that doesn’t seal properly against the non M hood, but that lack of sealing surface is on the list of items to fix.

Try measuring the temps when its 100f + on a daily basis.ambient temp.

Your results will be quite different as that is what the mod was actually tested in.
