Nice! So this was already broken? If so you found your problem. That Sucks to have done so much for a ground strap if that turns out to be it.

Yep. No warning signs of a slow crank or anything like that. Just stopped working.

It is a bummer I did the other work, but like I said, the battery and starter can go out in a real inconvenient time/place so I'm ok with those. Got a lot of years from them both.

I really like this NOCO BG40. Highly recommend it.

LI Ion Jump starter can start a truck or run a USB device for days. Also has a great light on it.

Is your starter issue intermittent (without your grounding work around of course), and do you have any other intermittent electric issues accompanying your start issue? I have an automatic n63 engine that developed intermittent start issues, transmission faults and random symptoms like the Idrive and even the engine shutting off. These multiple symptoms led me to replace the IVM which is apparently common with many 2003-2011 models. I only saw on replay generally mentioning relays, so I thought I’d ask. Also one person mentioned the IBS, I believe all you need to do is remove that extra cable from the negative battery terminal to test that. Good luck, and my starter is definitely bad and I’m having a hell of a time with the manifold removal (is it just 4 nuts?) any advice would be appreciated.

We helped another member with an issue like this. Except his issue effected the water pumps function. Same cause. I believe he crimped some $5 battery eye lets on with a negative battery cable from an auto store.

This is the thread where @Rcboosted2007 kept hammering on the electrical system. Lo and behold, here's the "ah ha" post. Thread is worth reading, if one has the time, because it demonstrates the pathology of chasing down some of these kinds of problems in today's complex cars: https://bmw.spoolstreet.com/threads/issues-with-waterpump-and-or-cooling.3782/page-5#post-53188
