Its also got a 5K rev limit, and power is falling off way before 5K. So we have near diesel tq production, and peak power at 6800-7000RPM. I’LL take the gas motor...
Actually - I make almost all of that tq to red line and trap 123 in a 1/4. And get 35 MPG while BEATING on this car with hybrids.

After I’ve added the new cams and forged rods/pistons, EFR LP turbo, raise the rev limit to 6k - 650 whp and 750+ wtq is the target.

That is pretty crazy. Has anyone ever broken the 6hp28?
We have the ZF tranny. No one has yet - and I’ve BEAT on the car.

I have a spare trans in my barn - plan to build it to handle significant power if/when it goes.

I have a 6hp28 also that I was going to put into my car and never did. If you know someone who wants to buy one LMK lol.

I’ve got a 335d (Diesel) making 600+ wtq at 1,200 rpm :imp:
The N57 is the second best kept secret, next to the Z4 N54 weight and low CoG making it the sleeper BMW tuning platform. My daily is a 535d. With the right suspension mods it handles great as a daily, stump-pulling torque, when tuned, and can be made to look bad-ass with a handful of bits. 36.2MPG averaged over the last 6 months. Way better than the N54 Z4 for everyday driving, and let's the Z4 become the project car with brutal behavior. :imp::imp::imp:

Eventually, and we're talking maybe a year or two away, I'm going to buy either a Z4 or another 335is, and do a N57 6MT swap into it. 40+ mpg, and power to boot.

The problem is tuning significantly lags behind N54 support.

Yes and no....several tuners now supporting (and pushing forward) the M57/N57 platform. Most have hit a limit of 500 whp and 700 wtq because of cam profile and back pressure issues.

The M57 is about to make a HUGE evolutionary step forward, similar to when the first ST was made for the N54. My car will be north of 650 whp and over 750 wtq as I am solving the above issues, and adding a custom EFR LP turbo mated to my HP hybrid.

Any way to get rid of the autotragic trans software so it'll run with a man pedal? That's more what I meant when I meant tuning support.

XHp flash trans tune is great for the M57’s - and a guy from another forum is writing custom tunes which are even superior. I ran the NC 1/2 mile back in May of this year with the xHP tune and I was very pleased with how crisp and sharp the car felt in S mode. FWIW - I put 15 car lengths on a tuned F80 M3 in one of those runs....

The guy I’m using for the 335d and 135 build has actually made a manual swap kit for the M57 - but I can’t afford that at the moment...

How did this thread turn into a Diesel discussion..:tearsofjoy: I actuall love diesel's we were a diesel shop for many many years. I have just worked on a few of the M57's, and they were such a nightmare, I swear I would never own one.. Kinda making me rethink it...:smirk:

Once all the emissions shit is deleted - these are incredibly reliable and stout cars. I’ll just leave this here....pulling 5 cars in a CTS-V with headers, Cam, tune, and smaller pulley.

Looks like the CTS-WannaV didn't do so well.

I have a video of a diesel putting about 15 car lengths on a tuned comp package F80 M3 in a 1/2 mile from a dig too :smile::smile:
