It seems pretty obvious that it was a scam just by looking at his Facebook page. He was asking for volunteers giving away free tunes just 5 months ago
1 million percent agree. This specific situation may have not been error on tuner but it brought things to light. I think it shows that we all need to think twice before trying to save a buck or make a buck before someone gets hurt financially or worse. It's a stretch but a blown engine can lock tires and kill someone . Unfortunately their are probably some that have a knack and good intentions but you can't go learning on other people's stuff , that's why on this platform I really feel that we have enough good tuners that are very fair and we should support them cause the good ones are also the ones that can afford to drop this platform like a bad habit.

Man, I just don't get how someone can take credit for someone else's work, especially in such a public environment and not expect to get found out. I'm interested in seeing Dean's response to Wedge's findings.

OP, thanks for such an entertaining thread!

Tunes are cheap AF and are about the only thing that *will* cook your motor if the tuner doesn't know what they are doing. Blows my mind that people still try and cut corners on the most leveraged aspect of their racekar expenses.

OP, I commiserate with your problem. But it's the definition of "if it looks too good to be true".

Just pay the going rate and have Terry, MOTIV, Ken, DZ, etc do it professionally.

Well peeps here is data. 93 Octane MHD Map sent to me by a fellow tuner (not a friend anymore)
Pic 1: OTS, pic 2: OTS, pic 3:OTS
Now lets take a look at my Cutom tune for customer on 93 octane, flash only application as well.
Pic 4,5,6 my custom tune on lower boost.

So considering claims and accusations, first one has to show the data and relay the thought, not just say something. Second, competition will always be negative towards you as you are competition after all. Third, simple... SH*T HAPPENS! Cars blow up, they break by just standing in parking lot and leaking coolant. When you take the car out of mechanically designed range, guess what ? Things will break, turbos will blow, and engines will be done etc.
Considering the impact made in the community by Wedge I had great respect to him but if anyone knew the whole situation they would look into things more. Wedge offered to help me tune back in the day but besides XDF and few PMs I had no help from him. Then we had a fight and things went sideways since then. I apologized to Ken for calling him a Rat and called to Neutrality in long run however as you can see his word means nothing - however that is for another day, another talk.
When well established tuner makes a comment everyone automatically believes it as he is known BUT looking at different perspective he did blow a lot of motors so did other calibrators. You might say "Volume odds" True but no one is talking down him because of being "established" and no one would either believe or just talk down on owner itself... you also ain't getting refund most likely nor reply for a week or so(just a thought)

Conclusion: YES! - I do have MHD maps, upon request I can take them down from google drive and no I don't use them as is too much pain to rebuild them into what I want. NO! - I did not rip them from ECU (You can do whatever you want with Kess and Ktag btw), someone else did, he is a Tuner and if you know many people in Florida who have shops and specialize in N54 ... you will riddle that one out yourself. YES! - I am new to the BMW (1+ years) but it doesn't mean I am not good at what I do. YES! - there are some cars that have problems but I am not the only one who has those customers, its part of the game.

PS: Eventually things will break, motors will pop, customers will be unhappy and someone else will get blamed as it is human nature. Questions comes to this: "Are you willing to take the risk to break some parts in order to get faster" - if the answer is "yes" then you are gambling. For ANY questions to me, please tag me, msg me on FB or send me an Email.

Things as "Nannies" and "Limiters" Will differ in some ways but for most part they are close to stock. These are main components that make a map ( I think I forgot a "Load" but that is interchangeable on constant)

So why are tuners overboosting to 24-27psi and blaming it on boostleaks and wornout wastegates also why does the 3.5Tmap need to be selected in MHD when the custom tune you are running is already made for it? I just want to know how this happened and how it can be prevented.

I remember this cluster... To prevent situations like this in the future, don't use an overnight startup tuner with zero history and a handful or stolen maps.

Seems to be a trend that these lousy “tuners” all run to Ken for input or maps, yet they take peoples money claiming it’s “their” map. We definitely need to make a terrible tuner list so this stops happening. Hell, put gay-j from empty tuning on the top of the list. I’ve been using Dimitri (BQ Tuning) for quite sometime and I’m very happy with him. He knows his shit, he’s conservative when necessary and very knowledgable with tuning. Wasn’t RFL Tuning offering free tunes awhile ago? Lmao I mean anyone with a half a brain would t touch that.

People need to remember that remote tuning is not easy. One you rely on customer for info and maintenance. Two imagine whatever you do buy doing it with eyes closed and only info by email and a report after the fact. This would make things much harder no matter what your field is. Now put that with the monetary risk and it becomes obvious how crazy it is to take chances. Noone would let someone adjust valve lash and timing on a built big block unless they new their credentials, so why would you let someone control much more on a much harder fix block lmao

If one hasn't dealt extensively with the general retail public, one will have NO IDEA how messy it is to tune a car remotely. BUT ... if one HAS dealt with the general retail public enough that my prior sentence made one cringe while reading, now multiply x10 and I suspect that's what remote tuning can be like. With the wrong customer(s) ... what a nightmare!

I'd love to see a tunah thread where the tuners tell stories, anonymity of customers of course, of the BS they have dealt with. It would be eye opening I'm sure.

I would agree that customers can genuinely suck, but I don't think that's the root cause of the problems with these shady copy and paste tuners.

Perfect example of the two sides to story and two perspectives. Einstein called it relativity put it that way lmao but it does apply. I am sensitive to it cause I have been victim on both ends. Ive had customers lie and they got me but I been in my trade 17 yrs so I cover myself now. Just yesterday I had to send pics of texts from 2016 cause customer tried lying. I also have had dumb things like shop say my tow hook cover doesnt fell right so they want to order me new one ,but now it dont match they tried looking like good guys. To bad the dummy left my old cover that they must ran over while rolling off flatbead in my trunk. It's a tiny one but just most recent and point is a little common sense protects both parties and honesty goes long way. Crying wolf to take advantage can really suck when shit really does happen especially in this social media age.

I’m making this post to warn people about RFP Tuning (aka Dean Fuhriman), who has been “tuning” for the N5X community now for a few months. He has a history of screwing up people’s cars, and even bragging about it on Facebook.

My first experience with him was Sept 16 when I inquired about his tune, he seemed to be very helpful and informative (I have very basic knowledge of tuning so I didn’t know any better). During the tuning and revision process I slowly started to get the vibe that something wasn’t right by the way he talked and also was unable to figure out basic problems that a tuner should have known. Throughout out conversations he mentioned things like “max that fucking turbo”, “I will max this this bitch tomorrow”. He also kept telling me (as well as Kevin and who knows how many others) that we have boost leaks, resulting in me spending over $500 or more trying to find it and fix the problem (new chargepipe, boost solenoid, pressure & smoke tests). After having multiple techs look at it (I work at a BMW Dealership) they all said it was good and they think the problem is a tuner issue.

I met Kevin Cohen on a N5X support group who was having a very similar issue to me, so I sent him a message asking who was tuning his car, and it turned out to be Dean. After talking we found 2 other people who were having issues with RFP tunes and ended up in a groupchat. Finally Kevin reached out to Ken Atkinson (WedgePerformance) and talked to him regarding our issues, that is when he informed us of Dean’s history. From what I was told he just recently learned to tune on his own car back in April, and kept asking Ken questions on how to do things, as well as something as basic as how to flash his car with MHD. Dean doesn’t seem to know how to fix issues with his own tunes and blames it on mechanical issues instead of himself. Such as Kevin and I’s imaginary “boost leak”, Ilir’s overboosting issues, etc.

After finally giving up on him and his tune I attempted to talk to him about getting a refund as it has done nothing but cause my car issues. He proceeded to go off on me about how there is a no refund disclosure, how I broke my own car, etc (screenshots will all be included). Dean was a very nice guy up until I asked for a refund and we got into a heated exchange ending with me finally telling him off (he proceeded to block me).

I’m posting this to warn other people to stay far away from him and his tunes. I’d hate for someone else to waste their money on an unsafe tune like many others and myself have.

Sorry I am late to the party where you can all try to take a hit on me HOWEVER. Let's open TunerPro and take a peak at the file shall we ? Illir's car has issue with N20 sensor as in tune LOAD Target is 185 with taper and NOT a flat 190(as shown in log)... which would indicate there is something else going on with the car besides the "tune" I was puzzled myself as to "why the hell is it doing it as there is nothing wrong in tune". V2 Version of the tune has load even lower, set at 170 to test the theory if its really the tune ... but LOAD remained at 190, so again... something else.

Now lets dig into Michael's tune.
First of all he failed to mention that he had problems with pipes properly aligning (Charge pipe to S pipe) which cause a leak, second tuner DOES NOT control JB4 boost as we can only set it to a degree, logic is not done by DME alone but by JB4 as well. Now if you look at the overboost and setting on JB4 itself, you will see few things: a)There is no anomaly and boost safety set properly, b)Boost values are with taper with corresponding FF and Duty bias settings. Since we are doing screen shots lets hit it again where car runs fine and customer beats the crap out of it (which as appears tuner's fault)

Conclusion:
*Don't mod vehicle if you don't want things to break (which they didn't just overboosted)
*If you are going to bash someone (me in this case) Please do so with information. AKA Open the Bin file in Tuner pro, analyze it and then come bash me. Thankfully files are posted which protects me as I knew this day would come where someone wouldn't be happy. So go at it
*If you have no idea about what you are doing with bin file or tunerpro... how can you say that the tune is bad if you lack simple knowledge to understand the mechanics behind it ? Don't be that guy, learn.

If you have any more questions/concerns/suggestions. You can talk to me on FB or email me. I do not take 2 weeks to reply :)

Thought of the day: Remember, competition will always talk you down for personal gains as it is not fortunate for them to have someone take their $$$ out of their pocket.

i'm late to the party, and i've never used this website before so i'm hoping someone finds this. my boyfriend recently had his car tuned by this guy, and paid him before he found this post. he did 3 or 4 pulls and his car got put in limp mode. I'm wondering what kind of codes you got when Dean tuned yours? just to see if it's his fault or if the parts just need replaced to handle the boost my bf is now making.

Could be a number of reason why the car doesn't run right. Plugs, coils, injectors. Agree RFP has a sketchy past trying to give away free OTS maps when they were really my hacked v6 MHD OTS maps... All in the name of trying to build his reputation. Water under the bridge today.

It's possible it's tune related, but I would need to see a log. Post a log to datazap.me and email me the URL link for the graph to [email protected] so I can review it and provide my 2 cents. Also include a screen shot of the active codes you currently have. Hopefully he's not out too much $ and it's a simple fix.
