Hey guys new here I just purchased a 2011 335is DCT

Love the car but would like some more power, already bought the bms dci, planning on getting FMIC and DP and MHD as well

Looking to reach 400whp is this possible without e85 or meth, if not how much would I be able to make ?

Possible yes. Don't bother buying the mhd OTS stg1 or 2 map packs; spend that money on custom tuning.

$100 mhd flasher module
$60 mhd logging license
$50 mhd m-boost license
$100 for DCI
$40 OTG ODB2 cable
$100 3.5/4bar map sensor from BMS or a genuine bmw part -- don't ebay out on this
$250-500 custom tune by the big name tuners (wedge, twisted, motiv, shoup, trebila)
$200 catless downpipes
$400 7" intercooler -- don't bother with 5"

I must stress upgraded inlets/outlets are game changers and would put you comfortably over 400whp but probably aren't strictly required.
I believe combined they'd run you $400 in parts but install is a bit more

What do the Inlets/ outlets do?

Are you saying it’s cheaper to go custom tuning ?

Inlets help the turbos breath or take air in easier, significant gains.
Outlets let the turbos push the air out easier, significant enough gains.
Inlets and outlets are small money for the gains, just like downpipes.

Given the cost there is no reason to not get a custom tune. $250 is small money.

Roughly $1000 gets you to 400whp on a stock N54. Add inlets, outlets and meth say another $900 for 450whp on pump 93. That is about the most you can hope for without E85 on a kill tune. Great bang for your buck. Above 500whp things start to get expensive.

Outside of running e60 and going catless, inlets are the best bang for buck on the entire platform. The intercooler will make sure you don't heatsoak after one glory run.

Reason I don’t want to do inlets is because I just put the bms dci on it

Who do you recommenced for the custom tune ?

Also what would happen to the factory 335is tune?

So would do the outlets replace the downpipes or how does that work ? I’m new to this platform so I’m not familiar with that

If I'm not mistaken, the stock 335is tune will be saved by MHD, or they will re-write a stock IS bin if you decided to flash back.

The outlets are the piping going from the turbos to the intercooler. The stock outlet is small and restrictive.

Depending on the inlets you can buy them without filter I believe so you can reuse your BMS DCI. The are a huge help.

Custom tune I use'd [email protected] to tune my stock twins on two N54s and now my single turbo. They have been tuning the N54 longer than anyone else on this platform and also offer a number of products for the N54 engine. I believe they also hold the Highest HP record something like 1000whp or close to it.

MHD will automatically make a back up of your stock tune so you can always flash back. If you ever lost it stock tunes can be downloaded etc. so really nothing to worry about.

As you are new to this platform a word to the wise, don't buy anything from VTT or Franken turbo.

Would I still see gains with the inlets and dci , and how would that work, the dci are pretty big

There are two types of inlets, relocated style which can't reuse your DCI and stock location inlets. You'll want the stock location inlets. I've never found a difference between silicone and the aluminum ones.

Any of the ones I mentioned above would be fine. Motiv, Wedge, Twisted, Shoup, Trebila.

Yes. In my opinion, the DCI are a waste of money and don't yield hardly any performance gains. The inlets will always provide significant gains even on a stock airbox stock filter.
Do you recommend getting rid of them and just relocating ?

I would recommend ditching the DCI, yes. Relocating is up to you, you'll see great gains stock location or relocated. Some people prefer the engine bay bling of relocation and some prefer the stealthy stock look. I went with relocated inlets personally but either will provide the benefits.

If you go relocated, those should come with their own filters. I believe the stock location inlets should attach right to the oem airbox.

Relocated is my vote as well. A bit more work but it looks significantly cleaner and you don't have DCIs flopping around in your engine bay. On a technical level the flow tests have shown passenger side to have less of a delta between vs driver's side stock. What this means is with driver's side one turbo is working slightly harder to pull air in then the other as the rear pipe is more restrictive than the front. The passenger side are basically equal. Now real life performance impact? Probably not much but there is some science behind why the passenger side being the better option.

You can also get the 335d air duct to feed them cool air if you so desire:

It also saves you having to move your coolant reservoir when you go single turbo top mount ;)

I would just sell them. If they are close to new you can probably get 75 bucks or so.

What’s the labor cost for installing inlets and outlets , I’m assuming I should do that to?
