very interesting thread , in france we love the M57 engine a friend have one page of mapping " http://bmwmapping.eu "

we have a few 335d full modded : R90 HPFP and 2000b mod injection , Catless DFP delete downpipes , hybrid turbo KP26 hybrid and KP39 hybrid , FMIC , swirl delete , egr removal , and make 470 WHP and 960-1000nm (710-740 Ft/lbs) , working and few new mods on this engine , but the m57 head is very restrictive , have some new hybrid turbos in development (the turbo look like a garrett GT35 adapted to the KP26 turbine core.

Yeah buddy! This is what I'm talking about. Its about time someone around here can make over 800whp more than once.

Finally i find someone putting their hands inside the M57

I will soon to replace the timing chain of my 35d engine (272hp version) due to mileage. At the same time i plan to put ARP head studs from WPI, stronger valves springs from bimmertune (+30% stronger), 286hp version intake valves (27.4mm vs 25.9mm) and ported head job.

My goal is true 500hp on straight diesel. My current level is at 440hp and 850nm with just bolt-ons: hybrid turbos, wagner intercooler with 63.5mm full piping and custom exhaust (76mm from turbo to rear axle and then 2x 63.5mm - M5 exhaust rear end style).

Do you know other places that sell arp studs and spring valves?

WPI sells both the studs and can source Hamilton Springs.

Just an update - the first wax model piston has been cut. Adjustments are being made for the tool path and a different lollipop bit is needed for the underside of the skirt.

Also - the cnc machine being used to cut the pistons is finishing a large run of replacement knee's...so we are getting closer on the pistons.

Yes :D With some help from a couple others...

My guy from UK tried to buy from whitbread their studs and spring valves. He was a hard guy to catch and sound a fishy deal. Unfortunally didn't found anyone with arp studs, so went with stock studs and bimmertune spring valves. The idea is also to increase hp via higher headflow and not higher boost. Engine is already making steady +2.5bar and 3 bar of peak.

Uuh, this is a great thread.
There are only a handful of guys, who are willing to touch the limit with this engine.

I've boosted from the oldschool engine, original 184hp one, to 345hp.
But on that, the head is super restrictive. Adding fuel or boost didnt matter and the engine turned out to be worn out too.

A guy i know just did a full engine work on his 535D 272hp version and installed 286hp head and valves etc.
Got the bigger turbo hybrid too.

But this.. this is awsome so i wish u best of luck and im waiting on new posts !

Goodluck with your friend build:

1. 286hp head is not plug and play. Although it bolts on the block, injectors is different and you need to custom fit for the 272hp version. I went with a much simple and easier route. Just bought the bigger 286hp intake valves (27.4mm vs 25.9mm) and will do a custom ported head job to flow even better than a stock 286hp head. Camshaft specs and exhaust valves has the same size in both engine versions.

2. Just to hybrid the bigger turbo is a mistake because the small turbo is the one that works more often. Only ends its operation at 3000rpm. When increasing boost, you will load even more that tiny turbo. So fast wearing will occur and if something goes wrong, the debris from it will damage the bigger turbo and could even damage internal engine parts.

The car is already driving.
He used cams etc from 210kw.

I didn't mean to say that it was not possible to fit the 286hp head into 272hp engine block. For that you need to modify injectors seats because 286hp engine has piezo injectors with longer nozzles.

What i said is that for performance wise the 286hp head only has bigger intake valves. All the rest is the same with 272hp engine, the same part numbers: exhaust valves (25.9mm / #11342247077), intake camshaft (#11317791579), exhaust camshaft (#11317791580) and spring valves (#11342247172).

So, since you need to modify 286hp head to fit, it would be alot cheaper to buy just the 286hp intake valves and port current 272hp head to make it fit.
