"If you upgraded your CCC to CIC then its said to be flaky at best."
You a convert?
yup! I guess I could try one day, and see how it goes.
Well, I think your conversion connects in a similar fashion, right? I wonder what the conflict is.
I've seen some with the guide lines how does that work ?
I'm going to order this and see if it works. I have an 08 with CCC so hopefully it works!
I thought about this, but I simply don't want to go through all the work of taking everything apart to run/plugin the cable.
definitely would like to get mine going right after winter
I have an extra emulator box on the way. I'm not going to need it. So the emulator and PnP harness, I've got both of those for sale if anyone wants them and don't want to wait for them to arrive from China. They should arrive shortly. I decided to go with a xcarlink instead, it just costs more.
cic only and you need pdc and.the emulator box and of course....a compatible trunk handle mounted camera
Generally most BMWs come with most of the hardware and pretty much all of the software for all the packaging options.. It saves time, money, and resources to keep building the same base platform and packaging from there.
I had read confirmations that PDC wasn't actually required. I don't have PDC yet, so we will see.
You do not need PDC
I've got the camera installed and the wire fished, I just need to finish up the inside part now. Coding was pretty easy as well.
Oh nice! Did you follow this guide?
I did. I'd add some more emphasis about fishing the wire through the flex boot thing. It's virtually impossible without some kind of lubricant. I used a silicone spray.
Currently the wire is sitting in my trunk. I just have to run it up to the module and plug everything in. I used the extension, too.
I really hope the extension and wiring diagrams and instructions are accurate for you. I did my best to piece it together from several threads and posts, all without having done it myself. Let me know and I'll be sure to add anything you think is worth sharing!
Things to consider/ things I've learned through the install:
The MOST ring (fiber optic network in the car for audio/video) connections need to be moved from the OEM harness to the extension. You'll have no audio otherwise, and the car will throw lots codes, and also not be able to communicate with a few modules.
If you don't use lubricant to fish the cable through the flex tube in the trunk, you will destroy some of the camera connections. Inside the molded plastic part toward the end of the cable is a circuit board, with pretty weak solder joints. Use a lubricant.
There's a metal pin in the right tail light that looks like it could be a ground. It isn't. I ran a wire from the negative terminal to connect into the camera harness.
Since I destroyed the camera cable, and I couldn't find just the cable on its own, I have a new camera and cable in the mail. I'm really looking forward to re-fishing it all the way to the CIC module again! /s
That sucks but at least you know what to do. I ordered my camera on Nov 29th and sadly it looks like its barely entering the country:
