VTT is proud to offer a TRULY universal Oil pressure adapter kit for any BMW using the factory M12 dummy oil sensor. Our kit comes as a complete kit, or in as many pieces you need to set it up on your project. We know not everyone has the same needs, so we designed the kit to be able to be customized to your specific set up. Need just the adapter fitting, no fittings, no hose, no harness? No problem. Want the complete kit with a 24" hose, and harness, no problem. Just choose the pieces you want to piece together your perfect set up, or for someone who isn't sure, order the kit that comes with everything. You can mount the fitting on the engine to a spare M6, or M8 mounting hole, or to the firewall, fender area. With the ability to choose hose lengths, and harness, you can mount just about anywhere.

Pricing ranges from $29 for the adapter fitting with mounting bolt/nut to $149 for the complete kit with AEM pressure sender, AEM connector, etc. Or anywhere in between based on what you want.

Many ways to skin this cat. Personally, as for that setup... we never hang anything off a fitting adapter like that. I did once on a racecar, but for a fuel gauge sending unit, vibration broke the fitting adapter where it was hanging off, and it burned the car down. With how hard you race your car, I would be worried about the same.

I did once on a racecar, but for a fuel gauge sending unit, vibration broke the fitting adapter where it was hanging off, and it burned the car down. With how hard you race your car, I would be worried about the same.

Quite right. That sensor needs to be remotely mounted to avoid vibrations that would damage it. Easy to do and pretty standard on tracked cars.

Disagree. Remote = more hoses. More chance for fitting, hose failure esp from poor packaging.
Race engines do not run such nonsense. You replace the pressure switch with a proper sensor and either patch the DME, run a real racing ECU (Motec, Syvecs etc) or external logger. This the best way.

This is "ok" for backyard/budget racer without the expertise.

Quick questions to @Chris@VargasTurboTech or others who run oil pressure logging on N54.

1) what is your hot idle oil pressure?
2) what is your wot oil pressure?
3) does oil pressure drop below idle if you brake hard and long from high speed. As in pulling +1 longitudinal G for +2 seconds. And example would be coming to a stop with ABS-activated from +100mph.

2) WOT Stays in the 60 psi range
3) Have never tested
4) Cold OP is in the 80-100 PSI range

This is taken from logs and a physical gauge on the car.

Aligns pretty well with typical n55 oil pressure logs. 38psi idle and ~75-80psi wot. 90-125psi+ cold start depending on ambient temps.

I will add to this though that 1st and 2nd gear it's not uncommon to see 90psi+ hot oil pressure under load. Pressure stabilizes more to target of 80psi across the taller gears.

N54 with baffle @drunkenup Castrol 0W-40 Euro Formula
Hot idle (215f) 600rpm: 23-24 psi
Hot 1200rpm: 55 psi
Hot 1500rpm: 65 psi
WOT: 81 psi through the midrange but falls off to mid 70s around and past 6000rpms

So here's a summary of all the data I could find on this topic:

N55 @Bnks334
Hot idle: 38psi
Cold idle: 90-125psi
WOT high gear: 70psi
WOT low gear: 90psi


I looked back at some logs. N55 is closer to 80psi at WOT. That is generally what target oil pressure is as well. The tables for N55 have been posted publicly. My logs are on point with the extrapolated oil pressure targets per the stock table set points. Running 0w-40 wt Castrol Edge EU oil. Since N55 has the oil pressure control solenoid you won't really see variations from target pressure by running different oils. You might see it more on N54's.

I don't have CNM's Datazap but I am sure if you look at some of his logs you'll see about 75-80psi as well.

On the oil filter housing. They are both M12x1.5. Plug side is obviously different (switch vs sensor).
