It might have been.

I do run my own PID tunings for this altitude. I've also spent a lot of time trying to get a single tune that will work at both sea level and at altitude. Re-scaling the WGDC base table to go up to 3.0 boost setpoint factor and 500 MAF is very important, because even with TMAP scaling 24 PSI is only seen as about 2.5 boost setpoint factor at sea level, but its 2.9 boost setpoint factor at altitude. Thus by setting your WGDC base values to the right things based on boost setpoint factor and requested MAF, you can then tune a tight PID without it oscillating, and it works at both sea level and altitude.

I've spent many many hours taking logs and adjusting things for sea level and altitude when I drive between the two. One major problem is fuel multiplier. Because the absolute boost pressure is different between the two for the same boost pressure, the PI mappings in the AIC6 need different values for the two altitudes, but you can't do that, so you have to set your fuel scalar to be close and let the short term fuel trims do their work. This means you'll never be able to keep it close to 0 STFT at both locations. I prefer to run 0 at sea level and run negative at altitude as to be safe and run rich rather than lean if you run out of STFT.

Yes it was definitely you that I talked to, probably on another forum. Because of your advice and using V8bait's very informative spreadsheet, I was able to dial in my boost way better than any OTS map I had used. Came in like 3-400 rpm sooner and held much better to my intended target by rescaling and playing with those PID settings. And yes, many hours of logging, making changes, repeat:) I'd love to pick your brain on some other aspects too one of these days.

800 Mile Update:
The organic clutch is awesome!
The grabby/shutter on take off got a ton better.
Pedal feel is still stockish

My daily commutes includes:
~2.5 miles of hilly road with stoplights and stop/go traffic
~2 miles of stop and go on the freeway until it clears up.
The clutch does well in all situations and grabs HARD during pulls/shifts

Only complaint so far is the pedal down rattle and gear chatter but both are tolerable.

I probably missed it somewhere, but what is the break in procedure for these clutches? The ceramic in particular. I didn't see it in my installation instructions anywhere.

I ordered the ceramic version from MFactory outside of the group buy because I couldn't wait any longer. Showed up a few days later.

Came with the following:
  • Flywheel bolts
  • Throwout bearing (metal)
  • Pilot bearing
  • Alignment tool (very nice, btw)
  • Locktite
  • Flywheel & clutch assemblies
Quality of everything was very good. Install was straight-forward.

I put ~25 miles on so far, here are my impressions of the ceramic version in comparison to my Spec Stage 3+ and SMFW:
  • Quieter at idle, less chatter
  • Louder with the clutch in, metallic whirring noise (I'd assume a stock TOB would get rid of this)
  • Same low RPM noises as SMFW
  • Pedal is slightly heavier
  • Engagement doesn't happen until the top of the pedal, a lot of dead space
  • Engagement window is fairly small, similar to Spec Stage 3+
  • Very grabby, but not impossible to drive
Is there a special break-in procedure for the ceramic clutch? I've just been driving normally.

I'm happy with it! Judging by the posts made about the organic version, I'm guessing the driveability will get smoother once I start to put some more miles on it. As long as it holds up to my no-lift shifting after break-in... I'll be happy!

Too early to compare I suspect, given all the feedback about how it changes over several hundred miles. Please let us know how it's doing after several hundred miles.

Dropped mine off to get installed today, should have it back tomorrow or Friday. Getting the balances cleaned too so this should be like a whole new car!
Can’t wait to drive it

I would recommend getting your setup balanced. Mine was a whopping 20 grams off. That's 3 times as much as the Mfactory one I had!!!

What are the downsides to having it be ~20g off balance? I already installed mine and am not taking it out just for re-balance. Seems to be functioning just fine.

No idea what the conversation ratio is. I am not a machinist. Friends with LS engines recomend I get the Mfactory unit balanced. It had a hum/vibration light load sub 3k rpms. That happened to be at 80mph in 6th gear. It was very annoying. Getting rid of the 6-8 gram imbalance on the Mfactory setup lowered the hum/vibration to sub 2200RPM. That made it much more drivable on the freeway. Just imagine what all that vibration will do to the already terrible electronic on our cars.

Gotta ask this question. Who did it? How confident are you in their equipment calibration/accuracy and the guy doing the balancing knows what he's doing?

Also was it checked exactly how it was shipped? When I disassembled mine to put it on the engine, I made sure it went back together exactly how it was shipped to me assuming that that’s how it was balanced from them.

Put 100km on my ceramic today, and I’m super impressed. Pedal effort is very reasonable and still takes off smooth once you get used to it. Vibration/noise is pretty minimal even with upgraded engine/ trans mounts
