Here is an election distraction for some.

HyperBMW soon to be released Large TB.

I will be bolting this puppy on my ST following run in and base numbers against the stock TB.

Then I will switch over to HyerBMWs ITB setup for some more comparison data.

Should be fun.

I thought it was 80mm or a hair over 3 inches. 3 inches can flow a fair amount...

It eventually gets back to how large your charge pipe should be. 0.4 Mach is the point at which air becomes turbulent and losses in efficiency start to occur exponentially. The key is to stay under that speed. You want to use the smallest piping possible that still flows enough to meet your needs. Larger than necessary piping increases lag time and adds heat with no measurable gain.

At some point you need larger charge piping, a larger TB etc. and then does this all matter when you have a restrictive n54 head My 3'' J/up pipe from my IC barely fits as is.

In for the results. I hope there are gains. Will there be before and after logs supplied?

Aftermarket throttle body is almost always code for problems on any platforms I have experience with. But it could be cool if it works and there are some documented gains

Will definately alter things all over the place (flow into the plenum chamber on the manifold etc) but, if thats good or not we will have to see.

I have had TB increases on many platforms and they have always made more power. I am sure it will require a tuner that can get the best out of the change.

But I will test it on my ST with before and after.

Completely agree, apart from the bling factor I can’t see this doing anything for performance.

Put VanJen/AlphaLoc/Wiggins on there and maybe I'd play with it. My Throttlebody currently has AlphaLoc welded to it but, if it were to break maybe I'd prefer an upgraded TB instead.

I need to get AlphaLoc on mine, been lusting over your setup and I think @fmorelli ? Some other members also have that. Very legit!

Stock TB is 74mm at the throat, Large TB 80mm at throat.
According to HyperBMW the 6mm increase is about a 108cfm potential gain.
I have the turbo and motor to use that extra cfm if we can tune it. I understand not everyone does or would want that.
Horses for courses.

I have long learned that statements like, "that's not a restriction", don't necessarily apply when chasing power.
Everyone around me stated that my 4inch straight through custom exhaust would do nothing except make the car louder.
Results showed an extra 4psi on opening my cut-out valve out the back of my modded HMS exhaust. And its stock quiet with a 5 1/2in cat.

Bottom line, I'll remain open minded until we test this sucker.

BTW Hyper could customize the billet TB to your wishes, bling or no bling, connection method etc.
And I do like having the brass instead of plastic internals with a replaceable up-spec blade motor as an option.
