Small update:

Code pretty much sorted, just need some more testing (in car).

I'm having some small custom adapter circuit boards made up that will monitor PT-CAN/GWS/EGS and control the M-gws, these boards are on the way.

Issues.

Park button, as yet, not working; as the M-gws does not have this (or any of the circuits on the GWS motherboard), then this is probably NA (the M-gws is working as it should (from checking BMW's Spec of the GWS unit)), so we are asking it to do something its not meant to...

Once you get used to leaving in drive and using the handbrake button (or door open) for park not really an issue TBH.

Up/Down shifting, works while MFSW paddles are used and in the small time window when the +/- led are on.

Pretty sure I know why, the M-gws is expecting to be in sport mode from ignition on, since the egs is by default in drive (not sport), then the up/down is expecting S1-S8 not M1-M8.

As yet not able to push the M-gws into sport mode (will keep looking at this).

Up/down, is (for me) a very minor issue tbh, I always use the paddles for manual shifting. That said I will keep looking at this.

I'll post up some pictures when the boards get here and they are all coded up and installed in car.

As yet zero problems with the M-GWS, it works as it should and no jumping out of gear or anything like that.

Hello, I don't see a problem with not having the P button, it works just as well in M vehicles. My only difficulty is not being able to use the paddles in manual mode without being expelled to D automatically. I just needed some way for the GWS M to know that I'm in manual or Sport. The rest works fine. Have you had any feedback on the plates? thanks

I followed the step by step of a youtuber who made a retrofit from gear m3 to f30 using only the finish and the board with the LEDs from M and adapted an Unlock button and a park button. It worked "perfectly" until the car stops and sounds this gong alert. It only emits this sound in first gear without accelerating and in Reverse

Tutorial retrofit:

My Problem with retrofit:

Does anyone know how I can disable this alert or the possible cause of the problem?

Hi so you need to use bimmer code and go into the kombi module and disable one of the parameters in here.
Depending on your car it can be different try this if not it’s going to be something different for you.

BMW F82 shifter coding on non Mcar for updated b58

  1. instrument cluster (Kombi)
  2. expert mode
  3. 3001- CC_ID_SPERRE
  4. CC_AKTIVIERUNG_8
  5. Turn all to FF EXCEPT BITE 2 to 00
  6. And turn bite 4 to DF
  7. Code
  8. Done :)
Or this:
CC_sper
Number 4 one
Code all to FF except for the last one to 00

Ok cool.

Just a small update after driving around for a little while.

1: shifter works for reverse, Neutral and drive. lights for R/N work 100%. works in all eco/com/sport and sport+

when in D mode, (all the way right) the lights do not work and while using manual shift (up and down by hand), the gear displays on the cluster, (and the lights lightup on shifter), the gear box however does not actually shift, when using the paddles, all perfect, and lights light up on shifter.

however, if in drive and i use the paddles then imeadiatly use the shifter (up or down), then the gearbox will shift.

I know that the x5m shifter does not have a M/S mode (just a D mode, even though its the same gearbox), then the GWS (shifter module) does not "know " what mode to be in M or S, i think its defaulting to M (but not enough to tell the system).

So, i was thinking if i can code the car to only have D mode ( and turn off/disable M/S) modes then I suspect that the GWS will start working 100%.

if anyone had the deafult coding for the 2014-2017 x5m icm and transmission coding, then I think we might be able to crack it.

any help would be great.

If my car did not have SAT (2TB), i suspect that it would have been plug and play!!
Hi when using you f85 shifter and manually shifting does your car kick you out of gear if you stay in one gear for to long. I’m having that issue now since the car does not recognize it in true manual. I bypassed the D light on shifter by buying a f87 gear selector since the m2 has drive it shows D. Will the f85 gear selector keep you in gear or pop you out if you stay in one gear for to long.

Thank you. Does it work for n20 too? My f30 is a 2012/13. I'm using it in the dct model for now, but not having the S mode and the manual even encoded by XHP return to the D, it discourages me a lot.

Small update.

I have pretty much finshed the adapter.

Its all working perfectly on the bench, just wait for a small adapter board to be produced and then will post up.

There seems to be some discussion on gear jumping (as in out of gear).

If you are getting this then you have the wrong gws shifter, you are trying to use a dct shifter in a non dct car, this wont work, (and i suspect will never work), if you are getting this, then get the correct shifter.

AFAIK (and happy to be proved wrong), only the f85 (x5m) gws shifter works with the auto box. any other gws shifter (dct) will not work).

even the f85 has its porblems.

1: no park button.
2: no d/s led light when in drive
3: so sport mode (normally right shifted) on non M gws.
4: no manual shifting on GWS directy, but paddles work 100%

1 not an issue.
2: is fisxed with adapter
3: still looking at this
4: as above.

Will post up as soon as its installed and working.

HTH

P.S the f85 gws shifter does not kick you out of geat (ever)....

Hello, the gear selector I'm using is from an F87 M2, question and if I flash the software by placing the SWT of the F85, would manual mode work without being kicked out?
