Went from VRSF stepped 5” FMIC to 7” HD FMIC. Note: Replaced radiator during this install, so pictures may show extra room around FMIC work area.

Hope this helps anyone (still) shopping for FMICs or considering the 7" HD. Unfortunately before storage, I had a boost leak and a leaky radiator that prevented some good logs of the 5" on the way to the garage. If I have any relative logs that I dig up, I'll post them.
What you’ll get:
http://www.vr-speed.com/vrsf-7-front-mount-intercooler-fmic-kit-135i-335i-n54-e82-e90-e92.html
- 7” HD FMIC
- 2 black silicone couplers
- 4 T-bar clamps
- 2 Stainless steel 18-8, #14 screws, 1-¼” (#2339 on boltdepot.com)
- Lower charge pipe (if applicable)
- 07 E92 6MT, 113k
- BMS DCI, VRSF DPs + Charge Pipe, MHD v7.1 Stg2+
What to do:
- There are plenty of DIYs from stock on the install: http://billswebspace.com/335HelixIntercoolerDIY.htm, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91461
Cliffs:
- Car: Raise car onto jack stands/ramps, remove front shield, remove radiator fan.
- Old IC: disconnect stock couplers, remove lower IC air guide and screws, pull old IC.
- Trim shroud and clean area. This needs to be cut out:
and turned into this:
- New IC: Install lower charge pipe (if applicable), couplers, and new IC.
- Note: May help to have second set of hands or jack when screwing in FMIC. I also used SS hex bolts and washers from Lowes, matching the threads via the screws provided. (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1326832)
Comparing the two FMICs:
- The 7” HD core adds some weight, but the fin density is very noticeable. Fit and finish is decent. Solid piece. Mounted up perfectly, just like the 5” stepped.

- Log is 3rd gear shifting into 4th, then letting off at the bottom of 5th gear. IAT held pretty well. I overlaid two end points of each gear so you could see where the temps began and ended.
- Started at 54 F, dropped to 50 F after 3rd gear, up to 59 F top of 4th, and reached 63 F as I was slowing down in 5th.

Huge shoutout to @doublespaces and @Tiago@VRSF for making this happen. Bonus points to Datazap in being able to show these logs easily. Toothy face only a mother could love.
