I've been playing around with different finishes lately and thus far this is my favourite.

Brushed polish finish and and clear coated to keep those grubby finger marks off it.

This is only our first attempt but from now on its only worth doing it to a new one after I seen a few failures lately and
most would be getting there with age.

I’d be interested in seeing a billet one made, but never personally been a fan of doing this to cast parts as they almost never have a uniform finish and everything round becomes oblong. Good work on the areas you could get to though.

Same with the oil filter housing and alternator

I hate the patina on the metal finishes.

The white corrosion, etc

This was a test run, very hard to get into those tight places and costs a lot more to do.

Next time I'll be using a fresh new throttle body.

I would love an aftermarket throttle body but not without an expensive stand alone ecu, not worth it, rather just paint it.

Hand and machine polished and brushed finished, some areas you just can't get into but are well hidden.

This was my test run same finish as my manifold which I haven't fitted yet, waiting on a few parts to do everything at once.

Getting ready for the end of year show again in Dec.

LOL, yeah mine just failed and I thought of doing this exact same thing but I just wanted to get the car running so I left it. Plus the used throttle I bought was so much dirtier then my original body.

@martymil not sure if you are aware of this, but you should check out vapor blasting. Produces bright, clean surface you want on aluminum. You'd have to find someone that has a vapor blasting setup and does this kind of stuff (platers, restoration folks). Vapor will get in all the nooks and crannies. You will have a ready-to-clear, perfect part when done. No handwork necessary.

I would then look at products like Eastwood Diamond Clear or 2k Clear. I have found these products to work well over clean aluminum, and withstand general engine compartment heat rather well, with minimal yellowing over time. 2k is a 2-part catalyst system out of an aerosol can, which is nice. Obviously there are professional solutions, so-to-speak, but for spot or DIY work this can be very effective in my experience.

Back to vapor blasting - most media blasts (from say glass to nut) leave a dull surface. Vapor blast is quite nice. If one is doing a lot of this kind of work, one can DIY convert a media blasting cabinet to perform vapor blasting. Anyway this Youtube video gives you a good idea of the finish differences. Arnold (the youtube video below) does very nice work, a lot of restoration stuff. He's in nothern PA if anyone here is looking for metal parts restoration - I'd ship to him.

The same bloke that does the polishing has a vapour blasting machine, I wanted a brushed finish.

The reason I won't be doing old throttle bodies is because I've seen so many fail lately,.what's the point of vapour blasting and brush polishing something that can fail within a year or two.

Looks nice, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping to see a ported or some other larger TB being tested after seeing the thread title and your name together lol.

Just so damn hard to make that ugly ass part look good.

Make a billet cover replacement for that plastic bit.

Also, can someone explain why the throttle body can't be replaced? My assumption is the parts which break can't be removed, but can something aftermarket be made so this is possible? Maybe have a different connection besides the c clip and maybe utility ports?

Interesting. And what exactly is going bad usually, the servo or the electronics?

In this throttle body it was the servo, I replaced the servo from a throttle body that was involved in an accident and was able to reuse it.

It would be easier just to hydra dip or paint the cover, if you where getting a pressure drop between the charge pipe and manifold i would look into getting a bigger one made.

Aesthetically this is the best way and bigger is not always better, really there is no room for a bigger up pipe than 3 inch so getting a bigger throttle body is not
worth the hassle and the cost would be absolutely stupid to incorporate all this for minimal gains at best.

Seen twin turbo 1500hp v8's running a single 3 inch TB, our blocks would disintegrate before we reach that level

What is the ID of the throttle body? I'm pretty sure it necks down a good bit doesn't it?

How about a manual cable throttle body conversion :)

The ecu uses the TB to stop over boost and traction control amongst other things to protect the motor, loosing fly by wire would compromise the safety's.

Not saying you cant but one is better of going stand alone and then you can do what ever one likes.

There is no limit then and much cheaper in the long run as one is not restricted by the ecu.

If you've got an automatic you'd lose throttle blips and other stuff, I hear ya. I like to present ludicrous ideas sometimes. All of those sound like nannies though :)
