Bosch 0221604115 I like these because they're all black and match my color scheme. Wonder how hard it would be to modify them to fit compared to red ones.

Here my part number and I don’t have a digital micrometer. Maybe Monday when I get back to work.

Well, i did the modification just because i had free time. I think the hardest part about all of this was pushing hard enough to get the coils to sit all the way down. They definitely sit a good half inch further down.

So Barry Battle did the Z4 today. I was not around for it, but he sent photos. The original write-up was done on the 1M.

Before modification:

Rubber covers removed:

Rubber covers cut back:

Coil shielding cut:

Reassembled and ready to install:

We removed the additional shielding on the oval connector, so there's room for the coils to run front-to-back:

Front to back installation. Not wiring harness is free behind the connector:

Full depth seating. This is critical. If one doesn't see this depth, the coils are not fully seated:

Nice. So @Cheezy you were able to get them at full depth at a slight angle?

Filippo
Yup, i got them all the way to where the red pointer is almost touching vc. i had to angle them because i didnt think to take off the extra shielding of the oval connectors. Only 5 and 6 are straight back. Also for cyl6, i removed the rear e10 bolt that holds the ignition harness pack to the vc. Made it easier than prying with a screwdriver imo. It went back in fine after coil was installed.

I was asked for up close photos of the IC on the 3D printed connector that breaks. Eventually we need to fix that whole mess as well, so here are the photos. This will need to live on the harness right ahead of the coil pack 3-prong connector. Will need to figure out how to mount this in a harness. Opinions welcome :innocent:.

I have to say I'm actually surprised it was in the 3d printed harness part and impressed since he at least spent the time getting that done professionally. He should sell these separately for those who want to diy their own harness .

I was waiting for Jake Hershorin (Motiv) to make this public. Thanks to Jake for pushing on this to make it happen.

The pesky 3D printed connectors that fall apart will soon be available from Motiv Motorsport. As I understand it, these are designed to house the IC as the BL kits were, but are made with materials that are correct for the application - that is, they don't crumble in one's hands. :tonguewink:

Once Barry Battle and I have them, we'll make a few harness and post info on how to do that. The harnesses will be made with better materials all around.

Are they also selling the ic chips in them? If not this is a wasted product since BL is the only one with the chips and once BL upgradesto better plastic motive will have stock to something worthless when these would only sell to those who currently have bad 3d printed ones.

I am interested to know what BL is going to do for those who already have kits and would prefer the revised harnesses and clips.

Will they sell full kits or just the harnesses?

I am the one who told Alex and others on this site about the R8 coil issue. All I got was that I was pretty much the only one having problems ( and possibly was using different coils than the ones supplied in his kits ), buncha crap. I also said as a few others now, at the very least, a partial refund is due.
