You buy yourself some new panties too? Lol
Shipped it to my house and just happeded to open it next to my wife’s pile-o-shit. Didn’t even notice till I posted the pic. I knew someone was going to say something.
Why pie cuts over mandrel bends? Just because they look good?
That and because I’m going to try to make these runners wrap pretty close to each other. I might switch to mandrel bends after this manifold if I make another one after I have a solid idea of runner position and angle. Plus, a full pie cut manifold has the potential to be very beautiful if done correctly. Its just not time or cost effective to put into production. But since this one is for my car I dont really care.

I made a jig today for my bandsaw to cut the pipe for merge collectors and tested it out on some 1.5” schedule 10 PVC I had laying around. Worked well. After some precise measurements I should have some pretty good fitment for welding the collectors.

I absolutely love this kind of stuff. I almost want to learn how to tig weld well enough to make some of my own things. How far of a stretch is it from Oxyacetylene (rod) welding? I've never touched a tig machine, only mig, arc and OA. Was mediocre at best at all of them, this is before high schools became pussies and offered shop classes.

Yeah man I really love metal fabrication and welding. I’ve been wanting to start up this shop since I was a little kid. Now I’m just getting the opportunity to make some really cool stuff and test out my skills.

You're in AZ right? Only a few hours from Vegas. Check out The Fabrication Series on FB and Youtube. Justin also offers classes on tig welding. If I were on that side of the country, I'd definitely go to his. He shares a lot of info on his channel and page as well.

I made a mock turbo flange that I’m using to design the jig. I’m going to make a T4 flange too and mount the turbo where I want it to go and weld a bar in between this flange and the T4 flange for orientation and build my jig based on it. I’m using a 22”x4”x1” sheet of 6061 for the jig and chill block. I’ll design the block the same way with the holes so I can back purge individual runners.

Still playing around with the merge collector jig. Did a mock run using 1.5” schedule 10 mild steel pipe. Just about have the cut angles down. Running it a little too steep and only left about 100-110* instead of the 120* I was shooting for. Trying to find that sweet spot on the bandsaw for the jig and pipe length to match up. Doing a second mock collector tonight and it should just about be perfect.

Nice! What's next
Thanks man. Waiting for the T4 flange to show up so I can start tacking the manifold together. I got a new set of long reach gas lense cups to help welding the center of the merge collectors. I’m going to start cutting and prepping the pie cuts and collectors tomorrow. When the flange shows up I’m going to finish the jig and put the positioning arm on for the turbo flange end.
