N54 swap into Foxbody/Mustang Chassis?

I have scavenged the internet off and on for a little over a year to see if anyone has swapped a N54 into a Foxbody chassis, or any Mustang chassis for that matter, and have come up empty handed.

Possibly I have just missed it if someone has?

This thread is geared toward if someone has done the swap and what was required in material and the dimensions of the mounts/adapters to make it work. Not concerned with wiring or fuel system.

I have a 2009 335i coupe auto car and I love it. As time goes on it’s went from stock to full bolt ons and now to single turbo. I mainly drag race the car and enjoy cruising it around or even driving it to other states if I feel like it, all while retaining the interior and creature comforts.

With that being said I’ve had an 1987 Mustang chassis at my disposal that’s “race car ready” per say and would love to put a N54 in it. It literally has no interior, 6 point cage, 35 spline spooled rear, fuel system, you get the idea. Perfect chassis candidate to make the most out of a N54 setup.

If I was that concerned my 370” with twin 6673’s would be in it instead of another chassis.

Just looking for input on N54 swap only. Thank you.

So you have a 370 cube motor, with what must be a dart block to support twin 6673s and the 1500+ hp that will support, and you want to put an N54 in the chassis instead. Makes perfect sense.

6.0 based iron block. Took a bit of bore cleanup and that’s how it ended up a 370. It’s for the Malibu, which already has the hot and cold side completed for that particular chassis.

We’re talking about a Foxbody chassis I have in this discussion.

I love how everyone thinks LS or 5.0 swaps are cheap. You are looking at 5k minimum for a cheap "LS" (in reality iron block 5.3) swap and 10k for a Coyote motor. N54 chassis are ridiculously cheap, you can pick up an entire drivetrain for 1500 if you shop around so I see why someone would be interested in swapping it into a non conventional body.

Just to add to my post above.... From a power standpoint all 3 hit their limits about the same 650-750hp in reality (not YouTube glory runs)

Lol ls easily goes to 900+ on sbe. Not sure what part of the world you're in, but 5k for an ls setup? Maybe if you are counting the t56 and custom turbo kit to go along with it.

The point I'm trying to make for all the internet arm chair racers is that in reality, the most logical racecar setup is the one in which you use all the parts you already have (like op) even if it's unorthodox

^this is like 900+ on a 2j mind set. It still needs to be built.

@135iTX makes a great point about the 5.3...then you have to have it built, then you have your drive train to think about how to put it down.

on a bone stock LM7 cast/hypereutectic piston, with stock powdered metal rods+hardware 5.3, on e85 and actually driving it, not just a dyno run, or down the strip I dont see 900+ being all that realistic for something that last's. 650-750 how ever :) (Im talking stock heads+cam here too)

the only "Cheap" LS swaps that are not just a junkyard block with some choo choo boys, are NA.

this is just my .02c dont mean to offend.

P.S. I also think all of the engine choices here are wrong and it should get a BARRA op ;)

you guys wanna talk about oil?

@Prototype007 there was an m54 swapped mustang on Bummer boost.
https://www.bummerboost.com/content...d-Mustang-and-adding-a-top-mount-single-turbo

pretty sure your just gonna have to consult with your hoist, and a tape since you have wiring etc.. already figured out :)

That’s the way it looks, which is fine by me. I did see the M54 sitting in a S197 chassis.

As for the wiring department, I’ll be running the setup on an Elite 2500T and port injection intake manifold. Which both I already have. Also have the bellhousing and converter to use my 4l80e with the setup as well.

Car will be a rolling tin can, but tolerable to drive at interstate speeds with having overdrive and converter lockup capabilities due to figuring out the strategy to make it all work with the I/O of the Haltech.

Could be a very cool build. Please keep us updated as it progresses.

I decided to go through with it and I will make a separate thread detailing the undertaking. Already have many of the key components and some more be shipped.

I'm excited to see this thread, I've been debating doing an n54 in my e30 for a minute. My main concern is getting around all the accessories and bullcrap associated with the donor car (on a decent budget).

The only reason I haven’t started a thread yet is the motor didn’t arrive before the holiday weekend and when I start the thread I want to bombard it with information and pictures so those in the future searching for such a swap can get hooked by the first post and possibly find the answers they will be looking for.
