Hi everyone, this is my first time posting on the group.. Just want to share my BMW N54 335 6AT project. Started by installing Kirkey Pro-drag seats and a rear seat delete, custom 3.5" single exit exhaust, 7.5" inch intercooler and all the typical FBO stuff. Car ran great on stock turbos, and managed a 9.0s 100-200 on 93oct pump gas no meth. After a while the turbos started smoking like mad, wastegate rattle, the usual stock turbo woes, so I started searching for a good quality alternative. I have several friends with aftermarket N54 turbos so based on their feedback the choice was clear. Decided to go to Hydra Performance and check out their HP800 turbos, the quality and engineering on these twins is a must see... Here is a sneak preview, with plenty more to come!

Welcome Kimi! Very nice - looking forward to your posts. I have a set of HP650s which I've not yet installed. @ShocknAwe has HP800s going on his car now I believe. There are a few others here with these turbos I believe, but names fail me off the top of my head.

Wondering if we might move this thread to a more specific place - if you are going to be pretty N54-centric, I can move the thread to the N54 sub forum? Just let me know.

Welcome buddy! Made a good choice with Hydra. Omar and Xavier are great to deal with. Theyve probably engineered or advised a good half the performance parts on my car at this point. Absolutely love those guys to death.

Those are some beautiful HP800s with Boysen turbofolds! Do I see the custom high flow outlet elbow welded to the compressor outlet? If so, good choice. :D

Yup! N53 spec HP800s and head going on in May. Car is making the tour of shops, 1M front end is getting painted, front seats custom upholstered, and then off to my Indy for the N53 makeover.

VTT Shotgun with the VCV tables, the tables made all the difference, before the changes i would run out of fuel around at around 15-16psi.
Rail pressure is now holding really well, i suspect i won't run out of fuel with the stock tmap sensor.
The stock bracket holding the single barrel broke on me, right on the bend, i think the bending process weakened it.
Since i fixed it and reinforced it, been running smooth no issues. That being said, the spool solution is much more elegant imho.

I've been running HP800 for around 25 000km now, car did 6.47s 100-200@19psi on straight E85 DI only with a 3.62 final drive ratio.
Spool is roughly 15psi @ 3500rpm on my car.

Is the 3.62 from an E39 or something? Interesting choice of gear. Got any logs from your setup?

@Traf thanks. I'm in the same boat. Bigger turbo but stock tmap and not looking to go crazy but I'd like to run DI only straight E85 just for octane safety. I'm leaning towards Spool as well but just waiting to see if they actually turn out reliable.

Final drive is from a M5 E60, one of the best mod i did. I'll make some news logs and post em.

If you are looking to stay on stock tmap, then go for the HP650 hands down.
As far as reliability, mines are mos def reliable.

Sorry, to clarify I already have an N55 with an EFR7670. I meant I'm leaning towards the Spool over drive unit if it ends up being reliable so I can run straight E85 DI only like you're doing. I just didn't know if you had the Shotgun or Spool unit. Sorry to derail the thread

Tried my car out for the first time last night, running HP800 turbos @ 21psi with 8deg of timing up top. 93oct no meth. Special thanks to Hydra Performance for a stellar job, I couldn't be happier. More to come later! 🚀🚀🚀
Did a 100-200 run right after I finished tuning my car last night. Running HP800 turbos @ 21psi with 8deg of timing up top. 93oct no meth, and 18C ambient temps. Special thanks to Hydra Performance for a stellar job, I couldn't be happier. More to come later!

Looks like a fantastic setup and results. I am loving how those turbos and manifold look!

Y'all are shooting for performance that I don't need in my life... but it makes me second guess my choices. :D
