This feels like telling someone people have been hurting themselves like this for nearly a decade. Then they say, 'Nah bro, I got this'. Then they hurt themselves. What the hell am I supposed to say here?
I swear I feel this comment 100%. Let em burn they did it to themselves. There was people defending this company as if it were god.

Not really. My n54 has been solid the last 6 almost 7 years. I just stuck to what was proven and did not decide to become a guinea pig for an unproven product. I’ve always believed if you want something done correct, Do it right the first time.

ha that's buying an n54 in general.
Bingo. One of the most problematic engines out there. Internals are good but every other part is an issue. Turbos, hpfp, valve cover cracks leaks, oil pan, waterpump, ect.

I may be an anomaly to the n54 but Ive had my cars, original owners of an09 335i currently, and an 07 335xi previously, for well over combined 12 years, over 175k miles, and ive no major issues, no break downs, no failures on either. Except my 07 335xi transfer case blew up, lol.


I did plenty of preventative maintenance (waterpump/tstat, more frequent fluid changes as the car gets older, ignition service, constant inspection of oil leaks, PLENTY of logs...etc) as well as keeping up with the forums to see what similar reoccurring issues this engine is having and then going from there. Monitor until things get worse and fix when broken or failing...

A fair share of people that are calling this engine problematic are the people buying high mileage, and highly neglected engines whose previous owner just beat the shit out of it knowing that they would trade it in and then modifying their struggling n54 who hasnt had an oil change for 20k miles or has a leak at every gasket...SOO naturally, when something breaks on them, they are blaming the "problematic engine," not the incompetent car owner previously or currently. So if you dont know your cars history, you cannot call this engine problematic IMO.

Im just saying, some good preventative maintenance, consistent maintenance is all it takes.

Back to DAW:
Ive been around this this platform long enough to witness the rise and fall of many companies dedicated to n54/n55 and threads like this are super informative and entertaining. FWIW, DAW could be amazing, could be shit. But all i can see from an outsiders perspective, is awful marketing of these turbos, too many questionable occurrences such as "vendors" selling these turbos here and on Facebook. Looks to be fake balancing sheets? Nobody can actually visit the shop where these are assembled?This Nick Olson/Olsom or whatever scamming people, also has been popping up here and on facebook groups. Just red flag after red flag.

Most do some dont. Lots of reasons why but the N54 is known the world wide as a high maintenance engine that can get costly very quickly. If you stay on top every leak or issue and do your own work that helps.

Did they smoke right away or were they fine for 99 miles? I ask cause we don't know if he didn't turn boost up until 100 miles or what

There's also overspeed to consider. Wasnt a boost leak being hunted? If it was sufficiently under boost but wgdc too high, it could have been spinning one or both turbos like crazy to try and hit target.

They did not smoke right away. I was chasing a boost leak and replaced the boost solenoids, took it for a test drive and it smoked after that.
Did not turn the boost up. I am on a Base map from Dimitri at BQtuning.

Yep, hunting a boost leak. ^this could be plausible.

If you never turned them up then boost leak shouldnt pop a seal. I don't think anyway, depends what not turned up is I guess

How's that? If you are targeting 15psi, but have a boost leak and have to spin the turbos the equivalent of 30psi to hit 15, you're still overspinning them. He was targeting 17 or 18 psi and always 3psi short. How do you know the turbos weren't trying to crank 40psi just to hit the 15 psi they were making?

That's why I said depends what not turned up is if was base tune and 10 psi just to get car started vs what you just described. I made sure to say depends.

Facebook group reporting a failure on the 2+.
But reading through owner's comments, looks like problem was there before the swap and venting PCV to air stopped the oil and the smoking.
But of course the other forum is "SEE!?!?! I TOLD YOU!!!!!" without actually reading anything.
