Hi guys,

We wanted to start a thread to share the progress of a customer's build on his N54 335i. It is currently getting decked and line honed for assembly.

Here's whats going into it!

VAC Performance Coated Rod Bearing Set (BMW N54/N55)
VAC High Performance Main Bearing Set (BMW N54)
Manley Connecting Rod Turbo Tuff (BMW N54B30)
CP-Carrillo Forged Piston Set (BMW N54)

Definitely will! The compression and displacement wont be changed much, these are VAC coated .5mm over pistons so there is a .20 over bore, and VAC rods.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand why you would build a block and not install an insert vs. leaving it open?

Or are you saying 'decked' as in you are making your own insert to make it closed deck?

I think they are referring to the decking as in the machining of the surface and not a closed deck insert.

If he's getting his work done at VAC then he's probably talking about the custom block work i have. They are going to make this option available to all shortly.

I love that people are "experts" but do not know what decking an engine is, then other people call it "custom" block work. No decking a block isn't custom block work, and it has nothing to do with closing the deck. It standard machining process when building a motor. Gotta love the internet era of performance. Everyones an expert, 99% of them have never had an engine apart.

That is what I assumed as well. Again it seems like a shame not to address that weakness while building the block.

Erichale77 What custom did you have done? I don't think VAC is building the block I think BPC is at their facility. Just using some VAC parts.

I'm having the space between the block and cylinders milled out and having a custom insert made that closes the deck and strengthens the cyl bores. Was told by Tony that it "should" be done by first or second week in Feb. Also having high lift cams installed in modded stage 3 head, ARP head studs vanos gears rebuilt and adjusted and an ATI dampner.
